2021 Dual-threat QB favoring Georgia?

At the end of June, headed into July, crystal ball predictions indicate Caleb Williams could be leaning the Bulldawgs’ way. 247Sports’ Kipp Adams, Keith Niebuhr, Tom Loy, and Brandon Drumm all have predicted Williams to UGA. The Gonzaga High School QB received his offer from Georgia back in January and took an unofficial visit to Athens just last month in June.

Currently, in addition to UGA, Williams has over 19 scholarship offers that also include Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. The Bulldawgs have offered 9 QBs for 2021 so far and have one commitment for 2020 with Jacksonville, Florida’s Carson Beck. Looking ahead to 2021, if Beck sticks to his verbal commitment and signs with Georgia, this is what the QB roster could look like.

Stetson Bennett – Rs. Senior

John Seter – Rs. Senior (Walkon)

D’Wan Mathis – Junior

Carson Beck – Sophomore

Most fans and media are projecting D’Wan Mathis to be the heir apparent to Jake Fromm and the Dawgs next starter, whether Fromm declares for the NFL Draft after his junior campaign this fall or comes back for his senior season in 2020. Regardless of what Fromm does, for 2021, there is definitely a need to get another scholarship QB and Williams would be a solid “get.”

Caleb Williams weighed in at 6-foot-1, and 209 lbs at the Opening Regionals earlier this year in May and is similar in stature to former Bulldawg QBs D.J. Shockley and Aaron Murray. Williams is very athletic, putting up a 4.57-second forty and a 4.12-second shuttle, very similar to one-time Bulldawg Justin Fields’ The Opening performance. To go along with that athleticism, Williams is a tenacious competitor and leader, not unlike the above mentioned Murray or current Georgia field general Jake Fromm. Last season, Williams threw for 1,685 yards and 10 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions and added 229 yards on 83 carries on the ground with 8 rushing TDs.
