Daily Dawg Thread 06 February 2020: James Williams ready to drop his top-three schools

To say yesterday’s National Signing Day was a big news day for 2020 college football recruiting would be both an understatement and overstating the obvious, but in the hoopla, news regarding a 2021 or 2022 prospect might get lost in the flood information. American Heritage High School class of 2021 defensive back James Williams Tweeted he is ready to name his top-three schools and will be making that announcement on his birthday on February 15th.

A 6-foot-5 and 218 safety, Williams holds over 28 scholarship offers from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Tennessee to name just a few. The Bulldogs offered Williams back in November of 2018 during his sophomore year, and back in September, he named UGA as one of his top-five schools in addition to Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and Miami.

He took an unofficial visit to UGA at the end of last spring in May. Williams was also back in Athens during the fall for Georgia home game versus Kentucky in October and then again for the Texas A&M game in November.

Per Adam Lichtenstein of the Sun-Sentinel, Williams played his junior high school varsity football at Western in Davie, FL, but after the 2019 season, he transferred back to American Heritage where he played as a sophomore. He plans to play his senior year and finish out his high school at Heritage.

“…Williams has played at three schools in his high school career. He started at Miami Monsignor Pace before transferring to American Heritage for his sophomore year. He played for Western as a junior, and he will finish his high school career back at Heritage.

Williams has had a difficult childhood. His mother was killed when he was 5 years old.

The 2021 star has excelled wherever he played…”

Adam Lichtenstein, Sun-Sentinel

247Sports rates Williams as a five-star prospect, the No. 1 safety, the No. 1 player from the state of Florida, and the No. 5 overall recruit nationally for the 2021 class currently. Rivals also rates Williams a five-star prospect, the No. 1 safety and No. 1 player from the Sunshine State. Rivals ranks Williams as the No. 13 overall recruit in the country for 2021.
