Daily Dawg Thread – 06July2019

Local Athens, GA 2020 prospect has UGA in his top-7.

If you were like many college football and Georgia Bulldawg fans, you were probably celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends, which means, you might have missed out on Len’Neth Whitehead’s announcement where he named his top-7 schools. And since Whitehead attends Athens Academy and is less than 10 minutes away from UGA, it is probably not that big of a surprise that the Bulldawgs were one of those seven programs to make his list.

Georgia offered Whitehead back in March, and including the Dawgs, he has over 16 scholarship offers.

Whitehead plays both ways for the Spartans, at running back and middle linebacker, but he likely projects as an ILB at the collegiate level. 247Sports has him as the 8th best ILB in the 2020 class and rate him as a 4-star prospect while Rivals list him as a 3-star and the No. 17 ILB. ESPN has Whitehead as a 4-star and No. 5 ILB prospect.

Len’Neth weighs in at 6-foot-1, and 230 lbs, and if you are looking for a player to compare him to, he reminds me of a bigger Channing Tindall. At the Open Regionals back in March, Whitehead ran a respectable 4.80-second forty for his size and a 4.50-second shuttle.

In addition to football, he is a track and field athlete and is considered one of the top shot putters in the country. Whitehead holds the Athens-Academy school record in both shot put, with a 67-foot, 3.5-inch mark, and discus, with a 164-foot, 3-inch throw. In addition, he had a 64 foot, 7-inch hurl in the GHSA 1A Private State Championships earlier this year in March in the 12-lbs shot put category.
