Daily Dawg Thread 08 February 2020: Quince Orchard defensive back Ryan Barnes

Quince Orchard High School defensive back Ryan Barnes was offered by UGA just a couple of weeks ago on January 22nd, and the junior is coming off a visit to see the Bulldogs first hand in Athens.

Georgia’s offer is one of eleven that Barnes has received over those last two weeks, and he has over 18 and counting currently with Arizona State and Kentucky being the two most recent programs to do so.

So far the Bulldogs have offered 24 defensive backs in the 2021 recruiting class. In the 2020 class that UGA just wrapped up on National Signing Day, the Bulldogs signed four defensive backs and expect Kirby Smart and his staff to look to sign four or five again for 2021. Kirby pointed out why in the UGA football National Signing Day presser on Wednesday.

I will always reiterate,” said Kirby. “You have to sign four or five defensive backs a year in order to stay where you need to stay from a depth standpoint.

At 6-foot-2 and 175 lbs, Barnes is the type of athletic and versatile defensive back that Georgia likes to recruit. And the word “versatile” definitely fits Barnes as he plays at cornerback and free safety on defense and at wide receiver on offense for the Cougars of Gaithersburg, MD. Barnes helped Quince Orchard to a 12-1 record for 2019 with their only loss coming in the final four of the Maryland High School Football 4A playoffs in the final four, 22-13 to Northwest High School. The talented DB has a nose for the football returning two picks to the house for touchdowns during the season.

His abilities and play on the field have not only earned him a plethora of scholarship offers but also a three-star rating from 247Sports and Rivals. You can watch Ryan Barnes‘ most recent highlights by clicking on the video below.
