Daily Dawg Thread 10 March 2020: Recruiting update on wide receiver prospect Mario Williams

Plant City High School junior wide receiver Mario Williams, Jr. released his top-10 schools back in October. His list included five SEC programs which are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Georgia.

But back in December, he narrowed his top schools even further to five, and the Bulldogs were not among them with Alabama, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas making the second cut.

But Georgia is quite out of this recruiting race just yet.

Williams visited the Dawgs back in late January, and he likely will be back in Athens to take another visit.

The talented 5-foot-10 and 165 lbs athlete also plays varsity high school baseball for the Plant City, FL Raiders, and Williams is looking to play both baseball and football in college. He is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, the No. 4 WR, the No. 6 player from the state of Florida, and the No. 40 recruit overall nationally in the 2021 recruiting class. Rivals also rates Williams a four-star prospect and have him as the No. 3 WR, the No. 4 player from Florida, and overall, the No. 16 recruit in the country. ESPN currently agrees with 247 and Rivals listing Williams as a four-star prospect and have him as the No. 1 receiver for 2021.

Williams made an impact as a freshman in 2017, catching 47 passes for 703 yards and 10 touchdowns and didn’t miss a beat as a sophomore in 2018, hauling in 51 receptions for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns. For his 2019 junior season campaign, Williams has reeled in 27 catches for 795 yards and 9 touchdowns in 10 games, and he also had 9 carries for 112 yards and an additional TD.
