Daily Dawg Thread – 12August2019: Looking Ahead to the 2021 and 2022 Recruiting Classes

Today we take a break from 2020 recruiting and look ahead the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes for the University of Georgia football program.

2021 RECRUITING CLASS

The Bulldogs have over 123 scholarship offers to rising high school juniors currently. Twenty-nine of those are to prospective student-athletes in Florida, 22 to Texas prospects, and 21 to recruits from the state of Georgia. The UGA coaching staff has offers to seven prospects in the state of North Carolina as well as Tennessee and to six each in the states of Alabama and California.

If we breakdown those offers by position group, they are as follows: ten QBs, ten RBs, 22 WRs, eight TEs, 20 o-linemen, three WDE, six SDE, 12 DTs, two ILBs, nine OLBs, eight CBs, six safeties, and seven athletes. 247Sports rates fourteen of the 123 prospects offered as 5-star recruits and 85 are rated 4-star.

UGA doesn’t have any verbal commitments from the 2021 class as of yet; so, who could be the first to come aboard for the Bulldogs?

Dual-threat QB Caleb Williams out of Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. is a strong possibility. He Tweeted this out back on August 7th.

Was Caleb hinting at anything? He hasn’t set an announcement date, and even though it’s possible he could announce his decision on that day, he could also release a list of his top schools. Friday, August 30th is also the date of the Gonzaga varsity high school football team’s opening game for their 2019 season; a home, non-conference game versus American Heritage (Plantation, FL) at 6:30 p.m. EST. In other words, his Tweet might not have anything to do with a commitment announcement or list of top schools, but just his excitement at that first football game for him and his teammates for the 2019 season.

He also told DawgNation in a recent interview that he would likely make his commitment announcement sometime after the 2019 high school football season and before the start of his senior year.

“I’m feeling a commit after the season,” Williams said. “Because here we always commit before senior year normally. That’s what our coach likes us to do. Play the senior season knowing where you are going. So I think I’m just about done. Pretty sure.”

If it is not Caleb Williams, then there is the possibility of a prospect from the state of Georgia. It would not surprise me if O-line Coach Sam Pittman worked his magic with one of two stellar Peach State big men, Amarius Mims from Cochran or Micah Morris from Kingsland.

2022 RECRUITING CLASS

UGA has 36 scholarship offers out to rising sophomores. There are nine offers to prospective student-athletes from the state of Georgia and the state with the next most is Florida with seven followed by Texas with four. The remaining 16 offers are spread out over Alabama, California, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Breaking down those 2022 offers further, the Bulldogs have offered four QBs, five RBs, three WRs, one TE, four o-linemen, one WDE, one SDE, five DTs, two ILBs, three CBs, two safeties, and five athletes.

Ten of the 36 prospects offered are rated 5-star recruits by 247Sports and ten are 4-star. With this group being rising sophomores, a good many have yet to be evaluated, rated and ranked.

Like the 2021 class, the Bulldogs don’t yet have a commitment for 2022. And I’m not going to even venture to guess who might be the first to jump on the mean machine in red and black.
