Daily Dawg Thread – 16July2019: Dylan Brooks Reveals Top Schools

One of the elite prospects of the class of 2021 announced his top school on Saturday via his Twitter account. Handley High School, Roanoke, AL 5-star defensive end Dylan Brooks revealed his top-15 which included the University of Georgia along with 8 other SEC programs Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. He also had four ACC programs which included Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Miami. Nebraska and Texas round out Brooks’ top-15.

According to 247Sports, Brooks is ranked the No. 2 WDE in the country and the No. 24th best player overall for 2021. Rivals also has him as the No. 2 DE in the U.S. and No. 36 overall. Brooks looks the part to garner those ratings and rankings. He has 6-foot-5 and 206 lbs frame that he puts to good use on the gridiron for the Handley Tigers at DE and TE. Last year, as a sophomore, Brooks had 55 stops, 17 of those were for a loss, and included 9 QB sacks.

Brooks had a very busy spring, taking visits to Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Florida, and Georgia Tech in March. In April his busy spring schedule continued where he took a trip to Florida State and then revisited Alabama and Tennessee. His most recent visits were last month in June to Auburn and again to Alabama. It’s early in the 2021 recruiting cycle, but following the visits, it appears the Crimson Tide may be an early leader here with Auburn, Clemson, and Tennessee in the mix as well.

Watching video clips of Brooks, his size and athleticism remind me of former Bulldawg and current Chicago Bears OLB Leonard Floyd, and the way he gets after the QB, his pass rushing ability, reminds of another Bulldawg, Jarvis Jones.
