Daily Dawg Thread 18 June 2020: Update on UGA commit Lovasea Carroll

2021 running back and UGA commit Lovasea Carroll accepted an invitation to play in the ’21 Under Armour All-American game, as he announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

Even though he attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Carroll is from Warren County, Georgia; so, it wasn’t too much of a surprise when he committed to the Bulldogs back in April.

The 6-foot-1 and 195 lbs rising senior picked UGA out of over 24 scholarship offers and a top-five school list that also included a top-five that also included Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, and South Carolina.

In Rivals‘ most recent recruiting ranking update from May, Carroll moved up a couple of spots as a four-star athlete from No. 8 to No. 6. Carroll also moved up in 247Sports rankings as a four-star running back from No. 8 to No. 6. Both Rivals and 247 have him as a top-150 prospective student-athlete in the country for 2021. And where does ESPN rank Carroll?

ESPN also has Carroll as a four-star prospect and rank him as the No. 16 athlete as well as a top-300 overall recruit in the nation for 2021.

And there seems to be some question as to what position Carroll has been recruited for and will play for Georgia, but the staff has recruited him and offered him a scholarship to play running back. Carroll has a big enough frame to add weight, and it would not surprise me to see him play at a similar weight as former Bulldog tailback and current Patriots running back Sony Michel, which is around 210-215 lbs.

Speaking of Michel, he is a good comparison for Carroll.

Carroll is mesmerizing in space and rarely does the first defender bring him down. He often reaches the second level of the defense as his just over 10 yards per carry average at IMG denotes. Carroll is also a patient runner who will wait for gaps to develop, but he doesn’t hesitate once a running lane is there, exploding downhill in a hurry. Like Michel, Carroll is an excellent receiver out of the backfield as well, something many fans thought the Georgia offensive coaching staff underutilized during Sony’s time with the Bulldogs.
