Daily Dawg Thread 20Apr2019 – Class Of 2020 4-Star SDE Zykeivous Walker – By Matthew Hall

Happy G-Day everyone!!! We have finally made it to the day of the annual spring game of the Georgia Bulldogs Football program where the “Red” squad will be squaring up against the “Black” squad. The good news about this contest is that no matter the outcome, the Dawgs are going to win. Keeping with the spirit of the day, game, and the event that is taking place “Between The Hedges”, we will be examining an in-state potential recruiting target in today’s Daily Dawg Thread. Without further ado, the Peach State prospect of focus is none other than Class Of 2020 4-Star SDE Zykeivous Walker of Schley County High School located in Ellaville, Georgia.

While Walker might hail from a smaller place on the Georgia map, he has made a big impact on making the place known with his stout play as a star DE under the lights on Friday nights. Moreover, there is nothing small in nature about the size of the South Georgia standout as he comes in at 6-4 and 260 pounds. He is currently rated the #10 overall strong-side defensive end prospect in the Class of 2020 and is the state’s #11 overall prospect per 247Sports Composite Rankings. Walker has been a target on UGA’s board for some time now and he made it known a few month’s ago to Jeff Sentell of DawgNation that Kirby Smart and company have recruited him harder than any other program. Such is a nice fact to hear of and all but it would now seem that things are starting to come down to the wire a little more with Walker and his visits this calendar year (Note: Walker has visited Alabama and South Carolina thus far in 2019) and his words recently leave some room for uncertainty as to whether he will commit to playing for the Dawgs in Athens.

Zykeivous Walker – April 17, 2019

There is no question as to the certainty that the University of Georgia wants to land Walker and have him join the defensive ranks of the Georgia Football program to help the Dawgs defensively in the years to come. A look at his numbers from this past season where he played as a junior at Schley County will proffer some of the picture as to why. The GHSA Region 4-A Player of the Year recorded some 60 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and even garnered a touchdown catch. All of these numbers and a massive 83-inch wingspan more than provide an indication that he could be a dominant force against SEC and other opponents Georgia will face in the near future should he pull the trigger and commit to the “G”.

While many feel that Walker is one of those potential recruits that is already in the bag for a collegiate career in Athens, the recent Tweet cited above from the Wildcat SDE shows that UGA special teams coach Scott Fountain (Georgia Football area recruiter for Schley County) and the remainder of the Dawgs’ staff will have to beat out 4 other SEC schools in the battle to land him. Those other SEC schools include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee. With that said, it would be a shame to lose this in-state star to any of these programs and one can only hope that the Dawgs will keep “Attacking The Day” with Walker in hopes that he will make it official and decide to stay at home to play for the Georgia Football program in Athens. Until that scenario unfolds and such comes full circle and to complete fruition, this recruiting story will remain one that is to be continued with eggshells all around.
