There has been a lot of buzz around North Shore 2020 running back Zachary Evans in the last several days since Early Signing Day, which was on Wednesday, December 18.

Evans’ senior season and recruitment over the last several months has been interesting, to say the least.

After North Shore opened the season with a surprising 24-21 loss on the road to Katy back on August 29th, Evans did not play in the Mustang’s next two games. There had been a ton of speculation on the fan message boards and even among media as to why Evans wasn’t playing. Most of those rumors involved some sort of altercation with a member of the North Shore high school coaching staff on the sideline during or after the game with Katy, but whatever happened was handled in-house.

It was also rumored that Zach Evans was set to commit to UGA early on in September, but the Georgia coaching staff had told him to wait while whatever was going on at North Shore was resolved. As with why Evans did not play in the two games following the season opener, there was no way to confirm this tidbit of information; so, it also remains in the rumor category. But he did put out this cryptic Tweet back on September 20th.

Whatever happened at the beginning of the 2019 Texas High School Football season is now in the rearview mirror. Evans and North Shore ran through their schedule reeling off 14 straight wins after the loss to open the season and made it to the Texas state high school football championships.

During the fall, the momentum for Evans’ recruitment switched from the Bulldogs to LSU. From November through December 13th, no less than five 247Sports recruiting experts crystal balled Evans to the Tigers. It looked like Evans was set to commit back on Wednesday, December 4th, but then postponed his announcement per 247Sports Barton Simmons.

“According to a person close to his recruitment, Evans has decided to postpone that decision. Attempts to confirm directly with Evans were not immediately successful but the five-star has deleted his tweet that announced his commitment plan.”

Barton Simmons, 247Sports

And since Saturday, there has been a buzz and flutter of activity that indicate the momentum has swung back around in Georgia’s favor with at least two crystal balls coming in for the Dawgs in the last 24 hours. Note, some crystal ball predictions are only visible for 247 VIP members; so, I’m only reporting what is visible for free and does not require a subscription.

However, now, there is a new twist and turn in the Zachary Evans recruiting timeline. 247Sports Nick Harris reported just after Noon-time on Saturday that Evans would not play for North Shore in the Texas high school football 6A Division I State Championship versus Duncanville.

As Nick Harris points out in his Twitter thread, it is important to point out that Evans is 18-years-old and still a teenager.

Zachary Evans has reportedly already committed and signed his National Letter of Intent during the Early Signing Period and is set to announce his decision publicaly on Thursday, January 2nd from the Under Armour All-America Game. And whatever school lands Evans will get a very talented running back.

247Sports rates the 5-foot-11 and 200 lbs senior a 5-star prospect, the No. 1 RB, No. 1 player from the state of Texas, and the No. 14 recruit nationally overall for 2020. Rivals also rates Evans a 5-star prospect, but have him just a wee bit lower in the rankings at the running back position at No. 4. Rivals list Evans as the No. 1 player from the state of Texas and the No. 29 recruit nationally overall.

If the 247Sports crystal balls are any indication, along with the buzz from Rivals recruiting experts, and Evans does commit to and sign with the University of Georgia, he will join Buchanan High School, Clovis, CA 2020 signee Kendall Milton in the backfield for the Bulldogs. UGA would have the No. 1 and No. 6 running backs from the 2020 recruiting class on their roster according to 247Sports or going by the Rivals rankings, No. 3 and No. 4.
