Daily Dawg Thread – 23Apr2019 – Class Of 2020 4-Star CB Dwight McGlothern – By Matthew Hall

As noted and referenced to in yesterday’s Daily Dawg Thread post, many of the potential recruits that were in attendance at the Georgia Football spring game this past Saturday came away from the event highly impressed and taken aback. Such can no doubt be partly attributed to the state-of-the-art football facilities that exist on the campus of the University of Georgia. Other factors that most likely had a major effect and impact could include but is not limited to the aggressive recruiting on the part of UGA Football Head Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff, the sheer prolific atmosphere that exists on a game day “Between The Hedges”, and the fact that more than 50,000 faithful fans showed up on an Easter weekend amid terrible weather conditions. No matter what the reasons may be, it would be hard to argue with the fact that there are some exciting things cooking up pertaining to recruiting within the Georgia Bulldogs Football program.

One recruit in particular has raised some eyebrows following the annual G-Day event of this past Saturday: Class Of 2020 4-Star CB Dwight McGlothern. The uncommitted Spring, Texas, prospect took to Twitter on Sunday and posted a photo of himself at Sanford Stadium with a caption that read “Can’t Wait To Play On This Field…#GoDawgs…#CommitToTheG”.

Dwight McGlothern On Twitter – April 21, 2019

The aforementioned statement and message sent out in this Tweet is very interesting and an eye-opener considering that McGlothern is still uncommitted and currently holds some 19 offers. Additionally, and perhaps holding just as much importance, the future star CB spent the day in Athens roaming around on the field with other highly touted and sought out recruiting targets of the Georgia Football program. These included Class of 2020 5-Star CB Kelee Ringo, Class Of 2020 5-Star OT Paris Johnson Jr., Class of 2020 5-Star RB Kendall Milton, Class of 2020 4-Star QB (Georgia Commit) Carson Beck, Class of 2020 4-Star OG (Georgia Commit) OG Akinola Ogunbiyi, and Class of 2020 4-Star CB (Georgia Commit) Jalen Kimber.

Art Kimber (Jalen Kimber’s Father) On Twitter – April 20, 2019

McGlothern is the #9 overall rated CB in the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the #16 overall prospect in the state of Texas. Standing in at 6-1.5 and 180 pounds, the Klein Oak High recruiting target has favorable height and length for the position of which he plays. He possesses good field perception and foresight leading to his potential to be a leader and defensive field general at the collegiate level. Aside from his defensive abilities, the “Lone Star State” prospect also plays on the offensive side of the ball as a wide receiver. This past season as a junior, McGlothern logged 13 total tackles (9 solo) along with 3 interceptions. Offensively, he garnered 751 receiving yards on 26 receptions while scoring 8 touchdowns. He further added another touchdown on the ground while carrying the ball 2 times for 30 yards. These totals and his stellar junior campaign led to him being named a first team all-state pick in the TAPPS Division II last season. He currently holds offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, and Oregon among others (including Georgia). Are McGlothern’s words about committing to and playing for the Dawgs on Twitter mere sensationalism while in attendance with other major recruiting targets and Georgia Football commits at G-Day this past Saturday or could he be the next potential recruit to #CommitToTheG??? Stay tuned and keep a close watch as this story still develops. Oh, and as always, Go Dawgs!!!
