Daily Dawg Thread – 25Apr2019 – Class Of 2021 OT Ben Christman – By Matthew Hall

G-Day is over and so is Spring Football for the University of Georgia. What is not over, however, is the pursuit of players and the nation’s top talent that will one day fill the rosters of elite college football programs across the country. UGA Head Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff have been very successful over the course of the last few years stockpiling impact players of the future. Such is certainly the case and can be attested to as it pertains to the Dawgs’ offensive line. This upcoming season’s O-Line in Athens will arguably the best in the country and what makes that fact even more impressive is the amount of depth that exists on the roster at the position. The presence of such is a testament to the hard work of Smart, Pittman, and the rest of the coaching staff and it poses a serious problem for the opposing defenses that will play against the Georgia Bulldogs in 2019 and beyond. Further, it fosters a scenario on the football field where quarterbacks are well-protected and provides them an ample amount of time to make decisions and throws when running the offense. Likewise, the presence of such a strong offensive line generates open lanes, holes, room, and protection for running backs to move through thus equating to effectiveness and successes in the ground attack. Even so, the recruiting game presses on and Smart and company have shown no signs of slowing down in their efforts to keep the hoard of linemen coming. On Wednesday, the Dawgs extended an offer to another potential lineman for the future: Class of 2021 OT Ben Christman of Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio.

Currently tabbed as the #2 overall football prospect in the state of Ohio, Christman is ranked the #21 overall player in the nation and is considered the #3 overall rated offensive tackle (per 247Sports rankings) for the Class of 2021. An imposing figure for his youth in years, the Ohio prospect has already filled out quite nicely and stands in at 6-6 and 299 pounds. He is a multi-sport athlete as he also plays basketball for the “Minutemen” of Revere High School which is an affirmation to his athleticism. Christman is well-balanced and is quite nimble despite his enormous size and he plays with a great deal of physicality and aggressiveness. The “Buckeye State” star in the making possesses brute strength, tackles very hard, and he has the ability to overpower the opposition that in his path. With Georgia offering on Wednesday, Christman now holds 11 offers altogether.

It should be noted however that UGA is the first SEC program to extend an offer to the future OT star. Other notable programs that have doled out offers to Christman include Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan among others. Could this young offensive tackle one day be protecting the QB’s and opening holes for the running backs for those that don the “Red and Black”??? We shall soon see and find out. Until then, and as always, Go Dawgs!!!
