Daily Dawg Thread 18Apr2019 – Class Of 2020 5-Star SDE Jordan Burch – By Matthew Hall

As the days go by, the date of the Georgia Football spring game in Athens, Georgia, grows ever closer. Along with it, so grows the number of potential big-time recruiting targets that will be in attendance at Sanford Stadium for the annual event. There will be at least 5 or more 5-Star recruits in Athens this upcoming weekend fostering the major potential for a monumental weekend and recruiting season for the Georgia Football program. One eye-opening target set to be there is Class of 2020 5-Star SDE Jordan Burch of Hammond High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

For those that do not know Burch, he is currently ranked the #2 overall player in the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. Standing in at 6-5 and 250 pounds, the Strong-Side Defensive End possesses quite an imposing figure. While there are plenty of other DE’s out there across the country that fit the same or similar mold, not all are created equal or can compare with Burch as a football player.

For starters, the South Carolina prospect is one that has a great deal of athleticism and not just as it relates to the sport of football. Burch is also a star on the basketball court and has been a participant in AAU basketball of which his play has garnered him recognition as a prospect in that sport as well. Even so, it would seem that he will most likely end up playing on the gridiron rather than on the hardcourt at the collegiate level. He has great initial and off the line speed and is an aggressive defender against the run as well as one that is able to get to the passer. In his sophomore season in 2018, the 5-star finished the year with 62 tackles and 10 sacks. Oh, and just to make sure that one is fully aware of just how athletic that he really is, it would be prudent to mention that he also plays running back on the offensive side of the ball. In the same said season as referenced above, Burch rushed for 680 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns on the ground. This combined offensive and defensive production led to “The Palmetto State” prospect to being named a 2018 MaxPreps High School Junior All-American.

Jordan Burch holds some 11 offers including ones from Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee among others. Crystal Ball Predictions currently have him heavily leaning towards Clemson at this present time. Maybe a good visit “Between The Hedges” can aid and assist in swaying his mind about playing for the University of Georgia. The fans and faithful of the Georgia Football program can only hope that such will indeed be the case. In due time we shall see. Until then and as always…Go Dawgs!!!
