In 1946, Georgia went 11-0 and won the Sugar Bowl, while the Fighting Irish, who famously tied Army 0-0, were crowned national champions at 9-0-1 and no bowl game.

In 1966, Georgia went 10-1 and won the Cotton Bowl, while the Irish were crowned national champs at 9-0-1 with a famous tie against Michigan State and no bowl.

In the Bulldogs 17-10 1981 Sugar Bowl victory, Herschel Walker ran for 150 yards against a Notre Dame defense that had not allowed a 100-yard rusher all season.
