Did You Know? Georgia vs. Tennessee

David Marshall (51) and Julian Rochester (5) tackle the Volunteer ball career during the 2017 Georgia-Tennesse game where the Bulldogs roll 41-0

Saturday’s game will be the 49th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Volunteers, and every Georgia-Tennessee game has been played on campus in Athens or Knoxville.

Former Bulldogs coach Mark Richt joined Alabama’s Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings as the third coach to lead his team to three straight wins in Knoxville (2001, 2003, 2005).

When Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs shut out the Volunteers 41-0 in Knoxville in 2017, it marked the first time Georgia had held the Volunteers scoreless since a 44-0 victory in 1981.

Tennessee had a tremendous season in men’s basketball for 2018-2019, posting a 31-6 record (15-3 in the SEC) and advancing to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament.

One of the NFL’s all-time leading passers is Tennessee alum Peyton Manning, who finished second in the 1997 Heisman Trophy voting while leading the Vols to the SEC title.

One of Tennessee’s greatest players ever is speedster receiver Willie Gault, was an NFL teammate of Georgia legend Kevin Butler for the 1985 Bears Super Bowl champions.
