Earnest Greene is showing he’s already ahead of the game

The Georgia Bulldogs put their depth on display last Saturday during their annual G-Day game, bringing light to lesser known or less experienced guys in the O-line room. Among these guys was early enrollee Earnest Greene.

Hailing all the way from Bellflower, California, Greene was recruited as an interior lineman but was seen playing at left tackle at G-Day. Usually lineman transition from tackle to guard once they reach the collegiate level. While this switch doesn’t appear to be permanent but rather UGA developing the young player and diversifying his skillset, Greene still earned high praise from his teammates.

Upon being asked, center Sedrick Van Pran immediately responded, “Great player.” He gave his view of Greene, “Really, really good player… Very twitchy feet… He understands football at a higher level for a freshman.”

Greene looks like he’s ahead of the game in terms of where mid-year players are expected to be football-IQ wise. Van Pran explained that the freshman needs to be a sponge and continue to grow and if he does, he’ll “be a superstar.”

Greene shouldn’t be the only lineman stepping into the spotlight this year. Mims and Webb’s departure will “give younger guys opportunities to step up,” according to Van Pran. With the way this team recruits and develops there should be depth regardless. But definitely keep an eye out for the number 71 and the name “Greene” as we could see him on the field sooner rather than later.
