[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will not begin play until the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, where they will face the winner of the South Carolina-Mississippi State match that is set to take place on Thursday at 2 p.m.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia will take on the winner of that match on Friday at 2 p.m., with a potential semifinal showdown against No. 3 seed Texas A&M looming should the Bulldogs advance. [su_spacer size=”20″] Last Match: The Bulldogs beat SEC Tournament host South Carolina 4-2 in Columbia last weekend.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The No. 2 Seed: Georgia finished tied for second in the SEC regular season standings with Texas A&M and Vanderbilt since all three teams had 11-2 SEC records. However, the Bulldogs earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of their head-to-head wins over both of those programs.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Bulldogs in the National Rankings: Senior Lauren Herring headlines the group with a No. 7 singles ranking and a No. 19 doubles ranking alongside freshman teammate Ellen Perez. Junior Silvia Garcia and freshman Kennedy Shaffer are ranked No. 24 in doubles, while Shaffer (46), Perez (69), freshman Hannah King (81), sophomore Caroline Brinson (83), and Garcia (93) round out the singles rankings.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Herring Chasing History: Lauren Herring has 227 combined singles/doubles wins in her Georgia career and is three wins away from moving into second place in the school record books. Chelsey Gullickson is second with 230 wins and Herring’s former doubles teammate Maho Kowase holds the record with 245 combined career wins.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Last Season: The Bulldogs were the No. 2 seed in last year’s tournament and won Georgia’s seventh SEC Tournament title with a 4-0 victory over Alabama in the final. They also beat LSU (4-0) and Vanderbilt (4-1) along the way.
