The latest on Georgia Commit Rodrigo Blankenship, why he chose Georgia, and how he likes his new nickname.

Me: What made you decide to commit to UGA?

Rodrigo Blankenship: I basically grew up at Georgia. I’ve been going to their kicking camps since 7th grade and got to know all of the coaches over the years. That and it just felt like home and and they felt like a family to me.

Me: UGA has had quite the pedigree at the kicking position lately. Have you had the chance to meet Marshal Morgan or any of the other guys?

Rodrigo Blankenship: Yes I have. I met him (MM) at the UGA camp this past summer and got to talk to him a couple of time in pre-game this season. I think he is a great kicker and I hope he has a great Senior year. I want to learn what it was like for him going to those hostile environments around the SEC, and how he learned to stay so focused in those overwhelming conditions.

Me: Have you gotten the chance to get close to any other members of Fam15 yet?

Rodrigo Blankenship: Well I started talking to Van Jefferson, Darius Slayton, and D’andre Walker this week and I’ve actually gotten really close with Natrez Patrick and Trent Thompson. We had some funny conversations at practice and on bus rides during the Army All-American bowl week. It was a lot of fun just knowing that we are going to be teammates in the future.

Me: What do you think separates the good kickers from the great ones?

Rodrigo Blankenship: Consistency. There are tons of kickers who can kick it 70 yards on kickoffs and 50+ yard field goals, but the best ones do it at the highest frequency.

Me: With your commitment being so new, not many fans have gotten to know you yet. What is Rodrigo like off the field?

Rodrigo Blankenship: Well I guess I’m just a guy who loves sports and wants to be involved with them as long as possible. When my football career is over, I want to be an ESPN analyst so that I can stay around it and disseminate knowledge about them as a career.

Me: A Georgia fan on Bulldawg Illustrated has deemed you “Legatron”. Any thoughts on the early nick name?

Rodrigo Blankenship: Haha! Sounds appropriate I guess. I like it!!
