Georgia Football: Wednesday's Practice Report

The rain moved Georgia inside for Wednesday’s practice. Head coach Kirby Smart and staff kept the players in check and had practice so intense it’s almost like the team’s taking on Alabama Saturday. Steve and I break down each side of the ball and give our observations.

Savannah’s Offense Report

***GAME UPDATE***

— As of 4:30 P.M., Georgia’s game, is still scheduled to begin at the regularly scheduled time despite other schools moving games up or postponing the matchup. We will keep you updated as soon as we know if anything changes.

Georgia's offensive line works through a drill.

— Sam Pittman broke his unit down into positions and continued to work on combo blocks like they did yesterday. Each group had a coach teaching them the technique. However, Sam Pittman worked with the centers and some of the guards. Solomon Kindley wasn’t doing the drill up to his standard, so he made him do it about five times until he yelled, “GOOD! That’s it!”
— The tight ends started out with blocking drills then moved to catch passes in motion. Coach Jim Chaney pushed them and criticized them a good bit today.

— Coach Cortez Hankton challenged his receivers physicality today. Each drill they did, he and a helper would hit the wideouts to make them hold onto the ball and pay attention.
— Demetris Robertson and Ahkil Crumpton stood out today. Both looked strong in each drill and Robertson has some sick moves that’ll make guys miss.

— Justin Fields seemed off target today. He sailed a pass past the wideout that no one could catch. His other passes were good, but they weren’t as crisp as usual.
— Jake Fromm looked impressive today. He dropped passes in that only his receiver could catch, and his short passes were crisp. Fromm’s cool calm and collected and seems ready for Middle Tennessee State.

Steve’s Defense Report

— Practice was business-like at the beginning of the media period. Then Kirby Smart’s visor came off as we were leaving. He corrected the defensive backs. We also could hear him yelling over the microphone as we were exiting the IPF.

— Mel Tucker worked the defensive backs hard as usual. The game this Saturday will be a good test before the team plays Missouri as MTSU runs a pass-oriented offense.
— Divaad Wilson has looked comfortable out there this week during practice. He looks like he has revered nicely.

— Dan Lanning was intense with OLB’s today yelling at Brenton Cox. “Get lined up on the ball!”
— The OLB’s were working with the defensive line on gap integrity and containing the read option. I’ve become really impressed with Michael Barnett. The man is one of the most underrated players on the defensive line.
