We’ve gotten to hear from the Bulldog’s head football Coach Kirby Smart on a number of occasions since the University of Georgia hired him back in December to replace Mark Richt, but what about Coach Smart’s assistant coaches and coordinators?

Coach Smart comes from the Nick Saban coaching tree, and like his mentor at the University of Alabama, Kirby has kept his assistant coaches out from in front of the microphone. So that begs the question what are they like?

Kirby on tight ends and special teams coordinator, Shane Beamer:

“As far as Shane, very detailed and organized. He does a good job of organizing our special teams and having energy for that.”

Kirby on Offensive Coordinator, Jim Chaney:

“Coach Chaney, I like to say experience. And they are all high-energy guys.”

Kirby on Defensive Coordinator, Mel Tucker:

“Coach Tucker, I would say presence. He’s got great presence about him. I love sitting in his meetings because he always has something extra; something you are not expecting to keep the kids’ attention. To make it fun … Coach Chaney is the same way.”
