Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report: Auburn vs Georgia. It’s like shooting chicken in a barrel, and that’s what the Dawgs did Tuesday night in Athens. The 25th ranked Lamecocks rolled into Athens with thought of being the King Bird. Fortunately, they we basically chicken wings when things were said and done. Up next is a must win game vs. Awburn in Athens at 5:30 pm today. We now sit at 5-4 in the conference and can’t afford to lose any more home games, especially against a team that’s 3-6 in the SEC. But before we talk about those jerks, let’s review Tuesday night.

The Dawgs got their first win against a Top 25 team this week. That was great! However, the thing that’s so maddening is the box score. We shot 39%, 35% and 68% percent from the floor, three point, and free throw line respectively. Compare that with the Baylor box score, it looks like the outcomes should be reversed. I mean even in a solid win I can’t figure this team out. Luckily, good defense and poor shooting from the chickens gave the Dawgs a much needed victory.

I thought before the season, that Carolina and Aubbie would be two of the best teams in the SEC. At least I’m right half the time. Auburn has been bad even though they have good talent. I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about what we need to do. It’s pretty much cut and dried. If we lose this one, not only are we most likely not going to the NCAA Tourney with an at large bid, but we don’t deserve to. And by the way, let’s talk tournament

Right now were 5-4 in the SEC. I think 12-6 gets us in for sure. If we go 11-7, we’ll probably need at least one, may two, SEC Tourney wins. And with games still left at UK, at Vandy, and at Columbia, you have to hold serve at home because you still have two teams coming in that already beat you. So “focus” s the word of the day on Saturday as well as the rest of the year. We’re not that far off pace. I thought we would be 6-3 right now. So if we get the games we should and pull one more upset, we’re back in the driver’s seat. We definitely still control our own destiny for whatever that’s worth. Tuesday was a step in the right direction. Now we have to keep the momentum rolling. We’re definitely in “one game at a time” mode. Speaking of “one thing”. One thing that helps is a very loud crowd in a packed arena. The Stegasaurus is calling! Answer the phone. It may be a pay phone, but please answer. See you there … to call the Hoop Dawgs!
