Jake Fromm Knows The Starting Spot Is Not A Lock

In one season, Jake Fromm went from the backup to the man and with such a big step, he had to learn everything very quickly.

Fromm was thrown into the fire last season and quickly had to adjust from being a guy on the sidelines to the leader of the Bulldogs offense. However, getting starting experience so quickly and helping lead the Bulldogs to a national championship appearance has prepared him to grow in his second season as the Bulldogs starting quarterback. In that first season, he learned a lot on and off the field.

“Definitely now, I got a whole lot better understanding of everything, I kinda have an idea of what’s going on and you know, how to get classes too on time,” said Fromm. “Football’s been going pretty well and you know, just kinda getting a better feel for things and kinda knowing how things roll around here.”

Fromm is now in a similar position to former Bulldogs quarterback Jacob Eason, in that, he is now the starter but he has a talented freshman backup in Justin Fields. Although Fromm has had so much success, he knows that no starting job is locked up and that every position is a battle.

“I expect nothing but Justin to come out and compete, you know, everyone in that quarterback room is competing and working hard,” said Fromm. “The same way Jacob was to me, I try to be that guy to Justin…Helping him out is only going to make you better, it’s going to make the team better.”

Fromm said multiple times throughout his interview that at the end of the day, the whole focus is to make yourself better and in turn make the team better. Although Fromm will compete with Fields, he should be locked in as the day one starter, but having a star like Fields behind him is a good problem for the Bulldogs to have.
