It could be easy for any team to get caught up in the hype that the University of Georgia has around them right now, but Kirby Smart is making sure that they focus on taking it one week at a time.

Smart has repeatedly mentioned this mindset of taking each game one at a time and not looking ahead, but with their current position in the standings, it’s hard not to look ahead. The Bulldogs are almost two-thirds through the season and should be favored in each of their remaining regular-season matchups. However, Smart does not care about this but is only focused on the next team in his schedule.

“The number one thing we are concerned with is what is going to allow us to play our best football game, what is going to allow us to be more sound in execution, what’s going to allow us to protect the ball, attack the ball better defensively and offensively,” said Smart. “At the end of the day, we’re trying to go 1-0 this week. Florida is the next opponent. That’s the most important thing.”

Smart went on to mention that they are not even 100% focused on game planning for Florida as they have practice split up with half of the focus on the Gators and the other half on improving the team. Smart has input this mentality with his players and it can clearly be seen week in and week out.

Whatever Smart has been instilling in his players has been working thus far so there is no reason for him to stray away from continuing to work and practice with this mindset. The Bulldogs upcoming matchup with Florida is definitely important and crucial, but if they continue to attack and play at the same high level that they have each game, then it should lead to them not looking ahead to potential bigger matchups and not stumbling in the regular season.

Smart has made it known that his focus is on one thing and one thing only, “I’m focused on getting ready for Florida.”
