Kirby Smart addressed the media on Tuesday, and the topic of D’Andre Swift came about. Smart complimented the young running back and related him to another impressive freshman. He spoke highly of Swift and gave a few insights on the Philadelphia native.
Smart said that Swift treats football like a business and that he is serious about his career at Georgia. The head coach compared him to Andrew Thomas on his maturity and how they went down similar roads in high school which led to them playing early in college.
“He’s a talented player. He’s very smart, very mature,” Smart said. “He actually reminds me in the demeanor of Andrew Thomas. Very businesslike. Both of them went to great academic institutions. Both of them won state championships in high school. They are very serious about their performance and I think that’s the overriding factor that allows them to play so early in their college careers because they are very calm in the moment.”
Swift ran six times for 32 yards averaging 5.2 yards a carry versus Appalachian State, and on one of his six carries, he broke off a 24-yard run which gave him some extra attention. The young running back received praise from the head coach and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out with veterans Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in front of him.
