When asked about the development of the secondary after Saturday’s scrimmage, Kirby Smart used the title quote to describe his defensive backs. Since losing long-term contributors after last years national championship game appearance, defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and his staff have been faced with a rebuilding project in that critical position group.

“There was a unique unit of DBs that had played for a long time around here…With them gone, we have been anticipating this void for two years now and we’ve tried to get some guys in here – not only just signing and last year – that can fill that void. We are not where we need to be. We don’t have the depth we need and we are not playing at the level we need to play. Now, I think they are going against two pretty good quarterbacks and I think they are going against a good wide receiver unit, but we’ve got to play at a higher level in our conference because our conference is full of experienced quarterbacks.”
