Lauren Herring Named SEC Player of the Week

[break] Georgia women’s tennis senior Lauren Herring was named SEC Player of the Week after leading the ninth-ranked Bulldogs to wins over No. 71 Samford and No. 28 Auburn at the ITA Kick-Off this past weekend.

[break] [break] The Greenville, N.C., native went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play on the number one courts as Georgia won both of its matches to progress to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships hosted by Virginia from Feb. 6-9.
[break] [break] Herring clinched Georgia’s 4-1 win over Samford on Saturday with a 7-5, 6-3 singles victory over Stephanie N’Tcha and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 36 Pleun Burgmans of Auburn on Sunday. The highlight of her unblemished weekend came alongside freshman teammate Ellen Perez on the doubles court as the duo defeated the nation’s No. 3 ranked doubles team of Burgmans and Emily Flickinger to clinch the doubles point for Georgia over Auburn.
[break] [break] Herring is currently ranked No. 19 in the nation in singles and is the first Bulldog to win SEC Player of the Week honors this season. She was SEC Player of the Week twice last season.
[break] [break] The Bulldogs, who moved up one spot to No. 9 in the ITA rankings as a result of their success at the ITA Kick-Off, will return to action on Saturday at Clemson for a 1 p.m. match. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 13 in the nation.
