Malik Herring, one of the top defensive ends in the recruiting class of 2017, has verbally committed to the University of Georgia.

Herring is a 6 foot 3 and 259 lbs defensive end prospect out of Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, GA. Herring has over 29 scholarship offers from FBS college programs including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Tennessee to name a few.

Malik Herring is ranked as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports.com’s composite ranking system, and a top 5 player at his position for the class of 2017. ESPN and Rivals.com along with Scout.com also rank Herring as a 4-star prospect, and he is ranked in the Top247, ESPN300, and Top Rivals100 for the 2017 class.

Looking ahead to 2017, one area of need on defense on the defensive line are edge rushers who can get after the quarterback and affect the opponents ability to pass but are not a liability defending the run. Herring has the potential to be that type of every down d-lineman, and he adds immediate depth for the 2017 season where he could make an impact as a freshman.
