Practice Observations 8/24

The media was given a limited time to observe practice today. With the Dawgs gearing up to face Oregon in just over a week, it was a fantastic opportunity to see where UGA stands at the moment. Here is what was gathered.

  • Arik Gilbert is wearing number 7 now instead of 14
  • Bowers and Darnell Washington received a lot of praise for their blocking techniques from Coach Hartley
  • 1st team o-line: Broderick Jones, Xavier Truss, Sedrick Van Pran, Tate Ratledge, Warren McClendon
  • Trezman looks really lean. He’s struggled with injuries during his time at UGA but looks to be in phenomenal shape heading into the season.
  • Malaki Starks and Keele Ringo took reps together on the sleds, will be interesting to see how much playing time Malaki gets vs Oregon. An exceptionally rated freshman that could see significant playing time this season.
  • Daijun Edwards made a fantastic catch on a fade during a running back receiving drill. Showed great hands and high-pointed the ball. Could be utilized in the passing game out of the backfield in the future.
  • Starting receivers continue to be AD Mitchell, Ladd McConkey, and Kearis Jackson, with Brock Bowers at tight end.

There are numerous questions to be answered as Week 1 approaches, but Kirby Smart’s team seems to be heading in the right direction. The Bulldawg’s quest for repeating a national championship will be centered around the pieces they’ve lost to the NFL, but there is no shortage of talent listed on the Bulldog’s roster. If the Dawg’s can remain healthy heading into Week 1, expect UGA to once again make a statement on the opening weekend.
