While most Georgia fans may assume that heralded true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason is a lock to start the 2016 season, a sizable minority contends Eason should take a redshirt season and learn the college game before assuming the mantle. Dan Mathews (Gridiron Now) goes through the pros and cons and concludes – START HIM.

[su_quote style=”modern-light” cite=”Gridiron Now” url=”http://gridironnow.com/jacob-eason-has-to-be-georgia-starter-day-one”] Finally, you get to the holdover quarterbacks, senior Greyson Lambert and junior Brice Ramsey. You know what you’re getting from these players. Yes, Lambert was 10-2 as the starter last season, but other than the game against South Carolina, where he was 24-of-25 for 330 yards and three TDs, how much did he really do? He finished the season with 1,959 yards and 12 TDs, meaning 17 percent of his yards and 25 percent of his TD passes came in that win over the Gamecocks. As for Ramsey, he showed off his inaccuracy in the few chances he got to play. Thank these players for what they have done for your program and ask them to do their best to help Eason get ready for the season.

It is in the best interest of the program that Eason is the starter this fall, even if that means Georgia finishes 8-4 or even 7-5. He will get meaningful experience and be confident going into 2017 and beyond, knowing that his toughest season is in the rear-view mirror.
