The Dawg Bones: Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

DAWG BONES OFFENSE – GEORGIA

Georgia Tech’s offense ranks 10th in the ACC and is coming off of a game where they could not score against Notre Dame. Meanwhile, Georgia’s offense seems to be firing on all cylinders with the ‘quarterback controversy’ in the rearview mirror. The Bulldogs are now averaging over 40 points per game and racked up nearly 500 yards again on Saturday. This should be a big game for Georgia both on the ground and through the air.

DAWG BONES DEFENSE – GEORGIA

It is almost not fair to compare these two groups; they’re at two complete opposite sides of the spectrum. Georgia has the No. 1 ranked defense in the entire country and still has not allowed 100 points on the season. The Bulldogs often talk about getting better each week, and it shows. Georgia Tech allowed 55 points in a single game to Notre Dame. The Jackets’ defense ranks 114th in the country out of 130 FBS teams. They also only have 19 sacks on the year, so they probably will not be able to put much pressure on Georgia’s offense.

DAWG BONES SPECIAL TEAMS – GEORGIA

Georgia finally got something going in the punt return game, totaling 155 punt return yards. Yes, it was Charleston Southern, but hopefully the momentum will carry over for the rest of the season. Georgia’s kicking game has been more consistent as the season has gone on as well. Discipline on special teams is something Kirby Smart preaches, leading to good special teams play from Georgia.

DAWG BONES COACHING – GEORGIA

Another category that is not particularly close. Georgia completed another undefeated season at home under Kirby Smart. That was the fourth time in six seasons Georgia has done that under Smart. Todd Monken continues his creative and dynamic play calling, putting skill position players in places to succeed. Georgia Tech’s Geoff Collins is just 9-24 in his three years at Tech, and an ugly loss could potentially cost him his job.

DAWG BONES OVERALL – GEORGIA

It is a good feeling knowing that “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” is back this year. While some want to get rid of the game, I still enjoy the end of year, in-state rivalry. With the way Georgia has played this year, you can also expect a good amount of Dawgs fans to make the trip. On the field, this is a matchup that Georgia should dominate. Georgia’s offense is capable of rolling over Georgia Tech’s defense and it should start with Zamir White and James Cook on the ground.
