The Dawg Bones: Georgia vs. Kentucky 2021

DAWG BONES OFFENSE – GEORGIA

This is a close category. Florida leads the SEC in yards per game and total yards on the season. Those numbers are a little misleading to how good their offense is, considering the Gators are only sixth in the conference in points scored per game. Georgia comes in after scoring 30 points on a Kentucky defense that held the Gators’ offense to 13 points. Stetson Bennett has improved greatly from last season and the Bulldogs’ offensive line has started to dominate physically at the line of scrimmage to open up the running game.

DAWG BONES DEFENSE – GEORGIA

This category is not close … at all. Florida’s defense has gotten absolutely demolished for most of the year. That was apparent in its 49-42 loss against LSU. The Gators have some stars on their defense but have not been able to put it all together. Georgia still ranks first in total defense nationally. Dan Lanning and his group will also get some much needed rest and should be fully healthy for the Florida matchup. Florida’s offense will give Georgia’s defense a good test but the Bulldogs might have the most dominant unit in all of college football.

DAWG BONES SPECIAL TEAMS – GEORGIA

Jack Podlesny missed an extra point against Kentucky, which was the first missed PAT since 2014 for the Bulldogs. Other than that, special teams were strong again for Georgia, highlighted by a blocked field goal to end the third quarter where Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt completely blew up the line.

DAWG BONES COACHING – GEORGIA

Kirby Smart is running a powerhouse program at the University of Georgia. This was the year that his first number one recruiting class (2018) would be seniors and the results are showing. Sitting at No. 1 through seven games is exactly where the Bulldogs want to be. Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will end up becoming a head coach somewhere soon too. It has been a tough go this year for Florida head coach Dan Mullen, who is in jeopardy of falling to .500 on the season with a loss to Georgia. Clown the Gators all you want, but Florida is a program that should be contending year in and year out, not settling for the middle of the SEC East.

DAWG BONES OVERALL – GEORGIA

The Dawgs have the more talented team and the better coached team. They are a two touchdown favorite, but if Florida shows up big for any game during the remainder of its season, it will be this one. The Gators fought with Alabama for four quarters at home, narrowly losing 31-29 to the Tide. Georgia will need to stay focused and execute the game plan that has gotten them to this point, physicality in the trenches is where the Bulldogs can dominate.
