Here are the three biggest reasons why Georgia wins today.
1. Both the defensive/offensive lines for Georgia are considerably superior to the Gamecocks and it’s going to show. When a team controls the line of scrimmage its a recipe for disaster and that is exactly what has happened to the Gamecocks the past two years against Georgia. Georgia has outrushed South Carolina the past two meetings 568 to 73 yards. Its really hard for teams with inferior line play to hang around for four quarters and I don’t think you will see that change.
2. South Carolina will be one dimensional on offense which will cause them problems. The secret to being a good offense is being unpredictable and dangerous not only in the air but also on the ground. Relying on Jake Bentley to win the game will only work to a certain extent. If the run game isn’t able to give him some relief than the Gamecocks will become one dimensional and stuck in obvious passing situations. This is asking for sacks, turnovers, punts, and an offense that consistently stalls out.
3. Let’s assume this game is to close for comfort and comes down to the kicking game. Even then, Georgia has a clear advantage. South Carolina’s kicker Parker White was 14/25 last year giving him a 56% field goal percentage. Meanwhile, Bulldogs All-American kicker Rodrigo Blankenship connected on 87% of his kicks last year going 20/23 on the season. He also hit two clutch field goals in the rose bowl and national championship game so he will not be affected by the crowd in Williams Brice Stadium. So if this contest comes down to field goals, Bulldog fans should feel very confident that Rodrigo will carry them to a victory.
