Top 8 Bulldogs to Watch This Spring

The Georgia Bulldogs have a very talented group returning to Athens in the fall and an exciting incoming freshman class will join them. Returning players along with some new faces will be worth keeping an eye on during spring practice.

8 ISAIAH WYNN

Wynn should have a role on the offensive line but at this point his role is undetermined. Wynn reminds me of former Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones, in that, he has the ability to play anywhere on the offensive line and become a strong contributor. I believe Wynn will either play center or guard during this upcoming season, but it will be interesting to see what position he plays at the start of spring ball.

7 JEREMIAH HOLLOMAN

The Bulldogs got bigger at wide receiver in their most recent recruiting class as all four of their receiver commits were 6-foot- 2 or taller. However, Holloman is the only early enrollee of the four commits and his early start could give him the best chance of seeing early playing time. The Bulldogs struggled with dropped passes last season and if Holloman can prove that he will not have that problem, then he could find playing time early and often.

6 RICHARD LECOUNTE III

LeCounte acted as the leader of the Bulldogs’ 2017 class and he could see the field sooner rather than later. The Bulldogs are returning four of their five starters in their secondary, with only Maurice Smith not returning at the STAR position. LeCounte may be the perfect candidate to take Smith’s role and the fact that he is an early enrollee helps his chances.

5 JAKE FROMM

The Bulldogs are very thin at the quarterback position with Jacob Eason as their only returning scholarship quarterback after Brice Ramsey announced he would be transferring after graduating from UGA in May. Fromm should come in and compete for the starting job, but I do not see Eason losing that role. However, Fromm should still be number two on the depth chart, if they choose to not redshirt him. Regardless of what they choose to do, his performance in spring practice and the Bulldogs’ spring game will be on watch by everyone.

4 RODRIGO BLAKENSHIP

The Bulldogs special teams unit had his share of ups and downs throughout last season, which will put Blankenship’s performance in spring ball under intense watch, as he will have some fierce incoming competition. David Marvin, who is transferring from Wofford (and was awarded a scholarship) and Brooks Buce, who is an incoming freshman, will battle with Blankenship to be on top of the placekicker depth chart.

3 MECOLE HARDMAN JR.

Hardman did not have the impactful season that everyone was expecting him to have last year, but he should see additional playing time this season. Both kick returner and punt returner are up for grabs and I believe that Hardman will be the main candidate for these roles. However. I also believe that Hardman will make some noise in the Bulldogs’ secondary and may make a case for some starting time. How Hardman is utilized next season is something that everyone is eagerly awaiting to see.

2 D’MARCUS HAYES

Hayes is the early candidate for the Bulldogs’ starting left tackle spot and his play will determine how the Bulldogs’ season goes. The Bulldogs’ offensive line had its share of struggles last season and they will hope that Hayes can help alleviate any of the issues they had last year. Hayes is the fourth early enrollee to make this list and in my opinion, he has the best chance of making the biggest impact next season.

1 JACOB EASON

Eason’s progression from last season is something that everyone will be looking forward to see. He will need to show that he has made great strides if he hopes to fend off incoming freshman Jake Fromm. Eason should be working with an improved offensive line and he will be counted on even more in the upcoming season. Eason’s play will be the difference between a mediocre or magical season that sees the Bulldogs contend for the SEC championship.
