[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia throwers Alex Poursanidis and Ashinia Miller represented the Bulldogs at the IceBreaker meet hosted by Birmingham Southern, both placing first in their respective events on Friday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Poursanidis kicked off the first meet of the 2015-16 season in the men’s weight throw, reaching a distance of 65 feet, 3½ inches. His first throw of 64 feet, 1¾ inches was enough to earn him the win but Poursanidis outdid himself on his last attempt to reach the better distance.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The junior from Paphos, Cyprus, started with his best opening throw ever, according to Georgia throws coach Don Babbitt.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Miller, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, dominated the rest of the field, throwing 62 feet, 8½ inches in the men’s shot put. Miller closed last year with a second-place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships, then took 12th at the NCAA Championships.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “All in all, the meet was a good start,” said Babbitt. “Our execution was all right considering how early in the season we are, and I think we have laid the foundation for strong future performances.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] This was the first of four Georgia meets scheduled at the Birmingham CrossPlex facility, including the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11-12.
