Tyler Simmons on Wideout Competition: "It's Hard."

Tyler Simmons spoke to the media after day 19 of fall camp. The junior talked about the infamous play in the national championship and a little of everything else. One of the topics that came up was the competition in the wide receivers room.
Simmons flat out said that the competition is hard. Someone that multiple media members noticed is how ‘getting on the bus’ has been something players keep on saying. The goal is to get on the bus and Simmons mentioned it was tough to get on that bus in the wideout room.
‘’We were looking at it with the coaches yesterday, and we don’t know who’s gonna travel because everybody is competing,” Simmons said. “Everybody’s doing their best on special teams.  Everybody’s doing their best on offense, so even with DRob (Demetrius Robertson) coming in, it’s been a tough decision to see who’s gonna travel this year.  Whoever does the most on special teams, whoever does the most on offense, that’s who is going to travel.’’
Smart mentioned last week that a wide receiver (Matt Landers) was on the cusp of making the bus, but needs to do more on special teams. The head coach loves players that can make plays on special teams and after last season it showed how much it mattered.
Simmons understands how important special teams are, and after his performance on it last year, its only right to assume he’ll make the bus.
