UGA Commit Spotlight: Malik Herring

2017 recruit Malik Herring

UGA commit Malik Herring was not a surprising pull for the Bulldogs, but it was definitely a great pull for the class.

Herring is the Bulldogs only true defensive end commitment and he would most likely need to add on weight if they hope for him to play that position. Herring was the second player in the first Christmas commitment video and he helped bring more depth to the Bulldogs defensive line.

Herring is one of the nation’s best defensive lineman and it has been great for the Bulldogs’ in that they were able to focus more on game planning rather than recruiting because they have filled many key needs. Herring is not the biggest defensive lineman, but he is the type of guy who could end up having a freshman year like David Marshall.

It is always unfair to lay down judgment on such few recruits, but Herring is definitely one of the best and he should definitely see some early playing time because of their love of switching out defensive lineman constantly.

Herring is a huge miss for certain people that strived for his commitment, but he has not wavered and the Bulldogs should not have to worry about any of his other suitors flipping him before signing day.

He is truly and outstanding athlete that I believe will find playing time in some capacity this season. If Herring can crack that defensive line rotation, then he could grow and develop into one of the Bulldogs’ elite edge rushers.
