The University of Georgia football coaching staff continues to address the depth on the offensive line and added another preferred walk-on to the 2016 class with Daniel Gothard, a 6 feet 6, 300 lbs offensive lineman from Dunwoody High School.

The talented big man has only been playing football for 2 years, and he was headed north to the University of Pennsylvania. That is until Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart and Offensive Line Coach Sam Pittman came calling.

Andy Gothard, Daniel’s father, told the Rivals’ Radi Nabulsi that his son made the decision Sunday night and gave some insight into the reason UGA made the offer.

“We were told the reason Georgia made the offer was that, having only played for two years, and the fact that he placed fourth as a heavyweight in wrestling in the state this year, they looked at the trajectory of his growth in two years and they believe that the sky is the limit,” Gothard said.

Gothard is the third preferred walk-on offensive lineman that Georgia has added to the fold since National Signing Day to bolster a position group that Head Coach Kirby Smart has stated the Bulldogs need to get bigger and deeper. Who are the other two PWO o-linemen?

Allen Williams, a 6 foot 8 and 335 lbs o-lineman out of Baxley, GA who played for the Appling county High School varsity football team, and Sean Fogarty, a 6 foot 4 and 300 lbs big man who is transferring from FCS program Savannah State University.

Georgia will also get a further influx of depth along the offensive line when the remaining class of 2016 signees join current early enrollee and 2016 signee Ben Cleveland. That list of offensive line signees will include University of Rhode Island graduate transfer, Tyler Catalina, along with Chris Barnes and Solomon Kindley, and while most of the new faces will more than likely redshirt, Catalina, who is eligible to play immediately, is expected to vie for a start or, at the very least, provide much needed experienced and mature depth along the 2-deep offensive line roster.

Gothard brings the total number of scholarship and PWO offensive lineman that Georgia brings into the program for 2016 to seven.

Colonial Dawg Me too Colonial. Hard to believe that this big young man has only been playing for a couple of years looking at his tape. He has potential and a lot of room to grow.
