Olten Downs, who has been with the University of Georgia staff for the past two seasons, is heading to Georgia Southern to take on the opportunity to be the Eagles’ new Safeties Coach.

Downs was named the Assistant Director of Player Development at UGA last January after serving as a Quality Control Coordinator with the offense during 2015. Georgia Southern’s Head Coach Tyson Summers announced the hiring of Downs on Thursday. Coach Summers had this to say about his new assistant:

“Olten Downs is someone who came highly recommended to us. He’s a tremendous football coach, is tremendous in the details of the secondary position, and has been around championships his entire life. He comes to us as a guy with a strong recruiting background in the state of Georgia, particularly the Atlanta area and I’m excited to bring him on board with the staff we have right now.”
