UGA graduate transfer tight end Eli Wolf made the transition in December from the University of Tennessee after deciding to leave Knoxville after four years.

Wolf is a huge grab for Kirby Smart and his staff after Isaac Nauta decided to forgo his senior season and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

“I felt there was a position of need and Charlie and Fitz (John Fitzpatrick) are great tight ends, and I felt like I could help the team alongside those guys,” said Eli Wolf. “The tight end room here is great and I am really excited for this season.”

The Bulldogs’ tight end core is very young, but with the addition of Wolf, his skills add some depth to the chart alongside fellow senior Charlie Woerner.

The competition is tough, and it is a very mature tight room. We get the most out of our meetings, and all help each other out get better as a whole.”

Wolf also talked about his recruiting process once he entered his name into the transfer portal.

It was a humbling experience and it was cool to see what would happen. I didn’t get recruited much out of high school so it was unreal at some moments.”

Being a Volunteer for four seasons, Wolf knows how intense of a rivalry the Georgia-Tennessee game is every year in the SEC East. When asked about if there would be any advantages blocking some of his former teammates Wolf smirked.

Listen, they know me and I know them. They know my tendencies so I’m excited and it’s going to be all business during the game, but afterward, it will be good to see those guys again.”

Georgia will travel to Neyland Stadium to take on Tennessee this year, and Wolf admitted he doesn’t how he will feel until the moment actually comes.

It seems like Wolf is focused on the first game of the year at Vanderbilt, and that he is ready to make an impact for Kirby Smart’s squad. He also seemed very excited to get to work with quarterback Jake Fromm.

“He’s a super-smart guy and is very knowledgable about the game of football, plus he knows how to manage an offense. He’s exactly what you want out of your quarterback, and is a standup dude.”

Wolf has been in Athens since he enrolled in January, and he admits that he is still getting used to life in ‘The Classic City.’ He says that he still has to use a GPS to get around, and his life has been centered around practice and the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall over the summer.

“That little transition, for a while, it was tough,” Wolf said. “Now that I’m here, I’m used to it, and Georgia is what I’m doing.”

The Bulldogs kickoff against the Vanderbilt Commodores on August 31, 2019, at 7 pm. Be ready to see Wolf play a huge role in that game, and this season as well.
