After an up and down April for the Bulldogs on the college football recruiting trail, the first week of May saw a number of offers go out from Georgia plus a much-needed commitment.

The month of May got started off with a bang for the Bulldogs with a big commitment on Monday from Hapeville Charter Career Academy’s 2018 defensive back Chris Smith II. That commitment put the Dogs back at three for 2018 and hopefully, will be a sign that this recruiting class is beginning to regain some momentum.

On top of Smith’s commitment, Georgia sent out over 15 new scholarship offers. The Georgia coaching staff continues its search for a quarterback for the 2018 class, four of those offers that went out were to quarterbacks. Of note, are offers to Peach State dual-threat QBs Jarren Williams and James Graham. Both Williams and Graham had been offered by a number of programs, 22 and 18 respectively, before the Bulldogs made there’s; so, Georgia has some ground to make up here. The Bulldogs offered a third dual-threat gunslinger during the week to Tanner Mordecai out of Waco, Texas. CLICK HERE to learn more about the offers to Mordecai and Graham. The offers to Graham, Mordecai, and Williams are made even more important by the fact that it appears that Georgia is out of it for Dakereon Joyner who announced on Tuesday, May 6th that he will make a decision between NC State and South Carolina.

Another offer of note was to 2018 Mountain Brook High School, four-star running back Harold Joiner. While the Bulldogs’ number one target is Zamir White, Georgia is looking at taking two tailbacks in this class. With the offer to Joiner, the Dogs now have offered 17 running backs for 2018. It is worth keeping an eye on Joiner as well Tavion Thomas, and there is the potential for a possible flip of the Peach State’s top running back, Dameon Pierce. Any of those three could potentially join Zamir White in Georgia’s backfield for 2018.

There was also an on-campus visit from 2018 Wiregrass Ranch High School, four-star cornerback Jordan Miner on Saturday, May 6th. Georgia offered Miner back on March 20th. Right now, the Bulldogs have over 44 offers to defensive backs, which seems like a lot after the coaching staff took seven defensive backs in the 2017 recruiting class.

In addition to the on-campus visit from Miner, the Georgia coaching staff was burning up the asphalt on the road. Inside linebackers Coach Glenn Schumann stopped by Frederica Academy down Saint Simons Island, GA way and visited with 2019 wide receiver Jashawn Sheffield on Thursday, May 4th. Schumann also swung by Colquitt County High School along with outside linebackers Coach Kevin Sherrer to talk with 2018 linebacker J.J. Peterson and 2019 kicker/punter Ryan Fitzgerald on Friday, May 5th.

What will the second week of May bring for the Bulldogs on the recruiting trail? We should see more visits as we are in an evaluation period of the 2016-2017 NCAA college football recruiting cycle. I also expect the offers to continue to go out. Last month, Georgia sent out over 51 offers, and I expect that pace to continue. Right now, UGA is on pace to send out over 60 offers for the month of May. Speaking of those offers, below is a list of players offered last week.
