These past twenty-one days of May have flown by and Georgia capped off this past week with some big-time visits over the weekend from Gilbert Frierson, Tyreke Johnson, and Jaylen McCollough for the Bulldogs.

All three recruiting prospects that visited on Satuday are defensive back prospects. Gilbert Frierson is a class of 2018 cornerback out of Coral Gables Senior High SChool, Miami, FL. The 6 foot 1 and 185 lbs Frierson is rated by 247 as four-star and No. 19 CB prospect for 2018. He is currently committed to the University of Miami, but donned some Georgia gear and had a good time with the Bulldogs on his visit.

Tyreke Johnson is a 6 foot 1.5 and 191 lbs, class of 2018 safety out of Trinity Christian Academy, Jacksonville, FL and he took an unofficial visit to UGA on Saturday with his family. It was a big visit for not only Johnson and his family, but also for the Bulldogs, who have been recruiting the talented defensive back for over almost three years. Johnson’s recruitment started with the previous Georgia coaching staff under then head coach Mark Richt and the current coaching staff and now head coach Kirby Smart have continued to make Tyreke a priority recruiting target for 2018. From all accounts, Johnson and his family had a very good visit.

The other visiting DB was Jaylen McCollough, a class of 2019 free safety out of Hillgrove High School, Powder Springs, GA. The Bulldogs offered McCollough back in November, one of the first three schools to do so. The 6 foot 1 and 190 lbs safety has over 16 offers currently. 247 Sports rates McCollough as a four-star prospect and one of the top-three safeties for 2019. This is not his first visit to the Classic City as he also visited back in January and attended camp at UGA during June of last year. Jaylen posted on his Twitter account that he had a great time and can’t wait to come back to Athens.

The Georgia coaching staff was also busy hitting the pavement on the road again. Georgia Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker and ILB Coach Kevin Sherrer visited Fitzgerald High School in Fitzgerald, GA on Wednesday, May 17th. Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney was at Woodstock High School on Thursday, May 18th, and Chaney was also in attendance watching 2018 Dual-Threat QB prospect Justin Fields play in Harrison High School’s spring game on Friday, May 19th.

The scholarship offers from the University of Georgia also continued to flow in week three as the coaching staff put forth over 12 new offers. Of note, was an offer to Liberty County High School, Hinesville, GA class of 2018 defensive tackle Tramel Walthour. Coach Kirby Smart stated that Georgia is still thin along the defensive front in a recent press conference form the week of G-day back in April, and the 6 foot 4 and 280 lbs Walthour certainly fits the bill of the type of d-linemen that the Bulldog staff are looking for. And if you are wondering if the Dogs are late to the party here. I don’t believe so, even though Georgia was the eight program to offer him out of his nine current offers. The Bulldogs are the first SEC school to offer Walthour and currently his biggest that I see on his offer sheet.

The Bulldogs also offered another 2018 quarterback on Wednesday, May 17th, offering Jordan Travis out of The Benjamin School, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Travis is a 6-foot-2.5 and 185 lbs prospect who holds over 15 scholarship offers. If you are counting, the Georgia staff has offered 21 quarterbacks for 2018. Of those, 14 are dual-threat propsects and seven are pro-style.

While not offers, there were a few other items of note on the recruiting trail last week. The biggest was 5 foot 11 and 205 lbs Bainbridge, GA running back Dameon Pierce’s de-commitment from Alabama on Thursday, May 18th. Pierce is one of the top backs out of the Peach State and is also considered one of the top-10 running back prospects for 2018. The Unviersity of Georgia is very much in play here, which I go into some detail on in this article from Friday CLICK HERE.

Speaking of running backs, 2018 prospect Master W. Teague III put Georgia as one of his three final schools along with Auburn and Tenessee. Right now, the Bulldogs are considered a favorite out of those three. With Zamir White expected to pick Georgia in June, it will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs will take three running backs for 2018 if both Pierce and Teague also choose the Dogs or if the coaching staff is waiting to see who announces first and the third guy will be the odd man out.

With ten days left in the month, will we see Georgia pick up another commitment or two for 2018 or even 2019? Newest Bulldog commitment, 2018 defensive back Chris Smith II, thinks there could be, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I do expect the offers to continue to flow and some more visits as the Georgia staff works the final days of May furiously before the camps start up in June.
