Originally a Georgia native, Kamari Lassiter is coming home. UGA has received a verbal commitment from the class of 2021, 4-Star cornerback that currently plays at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The commitment of Lassiter gives the Dawgs 4 defensive backs in the 2021 class. Kamari Lassiter joins fellow cornerbacks De’Jahn Warren and Javon Bullard, along with safety David Daniel.

Indications throughout the last month or so were that Lassiter was trending toward Auburn. However, whether it was the momentum of the 2020 season, the Georgia versus Auburn game itself, or the rumors swirling about Guz Malzahn being on the hot seat, Georgia was able to secure the allegiance of the talented cornerback. Charlton Warren, Dan Lanning, Kirby Smart and even current Georgia commits like running back Lovasea Carroll have consistent in their pursuit of Lassiter and it paid off.

With Lassiter, Bullard, Warren, and Daniel all on board, Georgia still likely has room for two more defensive backs in the 2021 class. DJ Daniel, Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, and Richard LeCounte are all presumed to be moving on from the program at the end of this season. Georgia is going to need to replenish it’s depth in the secondary and the addition of Lassiter and their other 3 commits is a good start. I expect that the Dawgs will land another corner and another safety in 2021. Terrion Arnold and Derrick Davis are the prime candidates at safety and I believe Georgia is in great shape with cornerback Nyland Green.

As far as a scouting report on Lassiter’s game and skill set, he is extremely talented and versatile. Not only is Lassiter an aggressive cover corner, but he is also explosive in the return game and displays tremendous ball skills and quick twitch capability at the receiver position in high school as well. Lassiter has also aligned at varying spots in the secondary for American Christian Academy and in addition to being able to cover receivers has shown he’s adept in run support and blitzing, both of which are crucial to Georgia’s defensive style of play.

With Amarius Mims having committed to the ‘G’ on the 14th of October and now Lassiter’s decision for the Dawgs, momentum is building and UGA is climbing the class rankings. More to come in the next few weeks as well.

When was the last time that UGA got a recruit from right under Bama’s nose like this? Was it the fullback Larry Bowie, or that tailback with same first name, Larry Ware? I think both were under rated, and Goff recruits. I know some may tamp down the excitement by pointing out that Lassiter was from Georgia, but this is still a big deal I think.
