The long awaited decision of 5-Star Paulding County inside linebacker Smael Mondon has finally come. Mondon has committed to the University of Georgia.

There is no doubt that when it comes to pure athleticism, Georgia is getting one of the best in the country in the class of 2021 with Smael Mondon. Mondon is just a natural football player. The 5-Star did not become highly rated by running from prospect camp to prospect camp, or paying a recruiting service, or even going to combines. In fact, Mondon has never done anything other than be a Paulding County Patriot. An unconventional, yet refreshing, approach to how recruiting is handled today.

Mondon’s recruitment was one that was kept very close to the vest. The tremendous athlete from West Georgia did not do a ton on social media to bring attention to himself throughout the process. Truthfully, much of his activity on social media was him using his platform and notoriety to help his Paulding County teammates get looks from college coaches and also to champion societal and charitable causes. These qualities and Mondon’s versatility and speed are definitely things to be excited about for the Bulldog faithful.

Listed at 6’3″ 220, Mondon looks a little leaner than that at times, especially in person. A college weight room and nutrition program should help him add even more muscle and become more of a physical presence. To me, it’s debatable as to whether or not Mondon sticks at inside linebacker for Georgia. He’s very fast and I could see him used similarly to Adam Anderson who Georgia lines up all over the field and can flat get after the quarterback. Regardless of position, this is a big pick up for Georgia, who desperately wanted to keep Mondon in-state and adding a 5-Star always bolsters the recruiting rankings.
