With National Signing Day 2018 in the Books, our focused attention now turns towards the 2019 recruiting class and beyond; so, on today’s UGA Recruiting Daily, we look at several 2019 defensive backs.

Georgia has offered over 29 defensive backs which include 17 cornerbacks and 12 safeties, so far for 2019, and out of the Dog’s seven commitments for 2019, one is a DB. That would be Dacula High School’s Jalen Perry, a 6 foot 1, and 175 CB who committed to UGA this past fall on Oct. 30th. Perry is considered a top-10 CB for 2019 and is a consensus four-star prospect by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals.

After taking 7 DBs in 2017 and finishing with 4 DBs in the 2018 class, how many will the Bulldog’s coaching staff look to take in 2019?

Right now, Georgia has 13 DBs on scholarship which includes freshman Mark Webb, Jr. who switched from WR on offense to CB on defense this past fall, and 2018 signee and early enrollee Divaad Wilson. If there are no transfers are non-qualifiers, the Dogs will enter fall camp with 16 on scholly after the three remaining 2018 DBs join the position group over the summer. Plus, per Kirby Smart’s NSD2018 press conference yesterday, it looks like the staff is going to start Otis Reese off in the secondary at safety, and he will also likely get a look at playing STAR.

So that would give UGA at least 17 in the secondary, but only four of those will be upperclassmen, two juniors and two seniors. So this is a young group headed into the 2018 season. I’m predicting that the UGA staff will take three to four DBs for 2019, and it should be similar to the 2018 crop, where the coaches will likely go CB heavy. Let’s take a look at five 2019 CB prospects.

NEWS & NOTES: The Bulldogs offered Andrew Booth, Jr. this past summer on July 28th. He also has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Over the fall, the junior out of Archer High School visited the Tennessee Volunteers on Sept. 2nd. and also visited UGA on Nov. 4th for their 24-10 win over South Carolina. It’s still very early in Booth’s recruiting process but I would say he is a slight lean towards Clemson at the moment. However, he had very good visits to both UGA and Bama.
