Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

Avon Barksdale My guess is he is a fall back guy for the staff.  Just have not heard anything until today.

  2. BahitsDawg

Greg Poole Wow! ¬†And BD35 is right behind Kublanow. ¬†Yeah, you can’t see him.

  3. Greg Poole

dawgmum¬†There is always hope. I spent all day with the pay-site guys and they don’t have anyone jumping out as committing today. Of course, that doesn’t mean it wont’ happen.

  4. Greg Poole

If you don’t recognize him, the little guy standing next to Tyler Catalina is Brandon Kublanow

  5. Greg Poole

They had most of the big-time recruits somewhere other than the intramural fields today. Maybe they locked them in Butts-Mehre.

  6. DawgDaddy

DawgLink I like Journey’s End in Loganville, cheaper than Blue Willow and just as good to me.

  7. Hobnailboot aka RobG

DawgLink It has been about 5 years since Ive eaten there but I remember it being way better than OK……

  8. DawgLink

Blue Willow is ok. I live in Social Circle. I’m heading for some real food at the Redd House outside of Jefferson

  9. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Bulldawg36 Take your wife to the Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle, they have some great food

  10. Bansai buckeroo

For future reference….. Buck requires this many…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Bansai buckeroo

Hey 36…not sure Madison requires that many !!… But I could be wrong…:-)

  12. RumRunnerDoogie

Hobnailboot aka RobG¬†Bansai buckeroo ive had plenty of “reality moments” which is why i left the fire dept lol

  13. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo that generation is the reason us millennials are so mentally dumb ūüôā

  14. Hobnailboot aka RobG

RumRunnerDoogie¬†Bansai buckeroo the hippies didn’t shoot up that was around the early to mid 80’s when that started

  15. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo says the hippie generation who shot up every drug known to man #

  16. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Bansai buckeroo if they can’t do it with a smart phone in hand they won’t do it

  17. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Deerhuntingdawg I just bought a new rig…A dobyns rod and a lews tournament pro g….was able to break it in the right way with some solid fish

  18. RumRunnerDoogie

Hobnailboot aka RobG RumRunnerDoogie Bansai buckeroo naw hes older than this country#

  19. RumRunnerDoogie

Hobnailboot aka RobG Bansai buckeroo he was around with the whole the earth is flat generation

  20. Frankly

Very true.  It seems that we have always lived in the second half of the top 10 recruiting class.

  21. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Bansai buckeroo¬† T-Rex was still stomping around then, ahhh the good ol’ days

  22. Bansai buckeroo

I think if Bama and OSU get who they are supose too, we end up third…which ain’t bad brother.

  23. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Bansai buckeroo I won’t tell him about you sitting behind Moses in the 3rd grade

  24. RumRunnerDoogie

Hobnailboot aka RobG Bansai buckeroo im ageist## if thats a thing, granted today it probably is

  25. BahitsDawg

We get a couple of big timers today, we could jump over OSU.

I suspect it would be brief because they have an unusual number of 5 star leans this year, but hey.  How often this late in the recruiting cycle could we ever say we had such a highly ranked class?

    GO DAWGS!!!

  26. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo hey..we got our goal of “doing it for the 1000 comments” granted only about .1% was uga related lol

  27. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo u must of not been around when us night shift was on then hahaha

  28. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo if we get Lawrence plenty of time to tell top talent that UGA is on the rise

  29. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo simmer down to the music u love#

  30. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo nooo im a friendly drunk :). i know u old timers get senile at a certain age# ūüėČ

  31. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo something is about to break this weekend and he knows it lol. i bet its holloman

  32. RumRunnerDoogie

Bansai buckeroo just the usual greg knows something but would rather tease us

  33. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole RumRunnerDoogie i always liked him because back when we had JHC, wiggins, and matthews. they were all talk and little prodoction yet we always had the quiet 3 star prospect mauger back there

  34. Greg Poole

RumRunnerDoogie Mauger may be my favorite Dawg right now. Smart, friendly and gives 100%.

  35. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole i honestly could care less after star ratings. if a kid has a drive like this guy seems to have i prefer them. after all mauger was a cootieship and hes now one of the best safeties in the game because he worked his butt off

  36. Greg Poole

Looks like the rain has stopped – I’m going to go drink a gallon of water and get ready to head back to the INTRAMURAL FIELDS.

  37. Greg Poole

I gonna hide this comment here so it maybe doesn’t get posted somewhere else. If a person were in ATH tomorrow and happened to drive by the intramural field, one could park and watch without a prob. if one just looked like one was supposed to be there.

  38. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole RumRunnerDoogie yea i guess, hes just our top recruiter followed by blount lol

  39. Greg Poole

RumRunnerDoogie There all a lot of folks around the field, I could easily have missed him.

  40. Greg Poole

Here is your undercover prospect of the day. Arrington Johns of Monroeville, PA (suburban Pittsburgh) is a JUCO from Lackawanna College in Scranton Pennsylvania. He and his dad are in town for him to get evaluated. I can tell you this, he is all business. He knows why he is here today.

  41. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole RumRunnerDoogie hmm its odd he wouldnt come to probably the biggest recruiting event unless hes in 1 of those 7v7 tourneys

  42. Greg Poole

Chubb had a speaking part this morning and did well. He is still a bit uncomfortable standing out.

  43. Greg Poole

I think we always include some pretty girls. The Rose Society ladies were helping register campers.

  44. Greg Poole

Phidarian Mathis Р 4-star defensive tackle prospect from Monroe, Louisiana. This kid was getting a lot of attention from Tracy Rocker

  45. Greg Poole

Bansai buckeroo  Still here. Trying to get the gallery done before sound 2. Been raining in Athens for a little while though.

  46. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole it seems the lesser known guys on this staff are doing a lot more in the recruiting game than in years past

  47. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole i had to do a double take on his hair do, i thought his head was cracked like a egg lol

  48. Greg Poole

Here is an interesting development. Today is the second time that Devonte Wyatt (USCe commit) has worked out for UGA coaches.

  49. Greg Poole

Y’all need to be aware of this young man. He is Pittman’s right-hand and appears to be going places >> D.J. Looney

  50. Bansai buckeroo

Saw him on hudl…moves pretty well for a man of his size. He has a lot of bad weight he could shed…

  51. Greg Poole

5 star from Jacksonville Tyreke Johnson on the phone at CKS Camp. At one point he handed the phone to Kirby and Smart chatted with someone.

  52. RobDawg

That still looks like he can move out of a stance. How does his mobility look like in person Greg? What class would he be?

  53. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole RumRunnerDoogie he seems too big, after seeing he went JC because of low interest

  54. RumRunnerDoogie

Greg Poole RumRunnerDoogie yea i know today is a busy day just wanted to let ya know before i forgot

  55. Greg Poole

RumRunnerDoogie Greg Poole  Got it. Thanks. It will be later before I can get to it but you can post a link to it and tag him. Shockwave crashing is a well know and documented issue and there are easily found fixes via Google.

  56. Greg Poole

Here is a kid no one is talking about and, obviously, I don’t know if he can play in the SEC but he sure¬†is big enough — Sean Fogerty – transfer from Savannah State.

  57. Bansai buckeroo

Dawgnation seems to take the weekend off. The weekend use to be when you got your most info from the AJC sports page…..

  58. UpStateDawg

Hearing anything about his interest level? I know Louisiana kids are hard to pull from LSU, but then again you generally don’t just drive/fly from Monroe to Athens without some level of interest.

  59. Greg Poole

Bansai buckeroo  I did. Looks really good. I was talking with Reuse about him Рwe agreed, a first off the bus kinda kid.

  60. Greg Poole

UpStateDawg  Yes, I saw him work out with about 15 minutes ago. Looks good. When I was watching he was with Rocker who was giving him loads of attention. Photos coming.
Glad to have you as a poster.

  61. UpStateDawg

First time poster, long time thread stalker. Anybody know anything about Phidarian Mathis, DT out of Monroe, LA? One of the Banner-Herald guys just post a pic of him and CKS chatting it up at camp. I wonder if he has entered our radar in the wake of Solomon to Mich. Good looking kid, just don’t know much about him.

  62. rugbydawg79

RumRunnerDoogie¬†Score Check Shockwave finally crashed so I can now cruise up and down ¬†RRD ¬†please get Greg to send me the potential fix – he knows how to get me —thanks

  63. Colonial Dawg

Score Check¬†DawgLink A couple of years ago I ran over a yellow jacket nest cutting grass while I was about 30 yards from the garage. ¬†I didn’t think about anything but getting my clothes off and ran the last 10 feet or so naked! ¬†And I don’t live in the country, I am in a neighborhood! ¬†Guess I could have been arrested but at the time I didn’t care.

  64. RumRunnerDoogie

Score Check RumRunnerDoogie im sure herring will get kicked out of the group text a few more times before he commits haha

  65. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole¬†That move caught ¬†my eye too. ¬†Looks like they found “the guy” to play LT.

  66. RumRunnerDoogie

Score Check RumRunnerDoogie i have a feeling holloman might pull the trigger. Im just basing that off of him spending last weekend with all the UGA guys in oregon and now spending the weekend with them again

  67. Score Check

    RumRunnerDoogie Score Check
I hope so. ¬†Sounds like Herring is a done deal … he’s just waiting to announce in late August on his late Aunt’s Birthday.
I really wish Holloman would pull the trigger this weekend and commit to the good guys.

  68. ed603

Morning Greg…appreciate the work in the heat! When the going gets tough, the tough get going! GATA

  69. Score Check

    Bansai buckeroo
I hear you!  About 20 minutes later I back to my back yard and my lawn mower was covered by about 100 yellow jackets.  So all and all I was lucky I got away with just 15 hits.

  70. Score Check

I’m hanging in there. ¬†My upper lip looks like a Botox Treatment gone terribly wrong. ¬†The interesting thing that’s the only sting that actually doesn’t hurt.

  71. Bansai buckeroo

Same thing happened to me last year… Didn’t realize I could move that fast….haha

  72. RumRunnerDoogie

Score Check well this is essentially the new dawg night so i (no inside info) would think the chances are pretty high that someone pulls the trigger

  73. Score Check

Got waylaid by a swam of yellow jackets while cutting my grass yesterday.  About 15 stings from top to bottom.
I need some good news  .. What are the chances we get a commit or two this weekend?

  74. Greg Poole

Two session of camp today – 9AM and 3PM. Hydration will be the key to remaining upright.

  75. Greg Poole

DawgDaddy Agree. However, when it happens to an opponent it is worth mentioning.
I found it interesting that he had been moved from left tackle to guard.

  76. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I hate to see any kid hurt, especially a season ending injury.  They work hard for the honor of playing for their school so you know it hurts more than just physically.

  77. Greg Poole

    CKS on Brian Herrien:
‚ÄúIt was an insurance policy and we thought he was a talented player,‚ÄĚ Smart said. ‚ÄúRight now, he looks good. He has to go out and perform. He has to do things on and off the field, and get ready to play.‚ÄĚ
Herrien was unable to sign with any program until meeting the NCAA requirements for admission. At the last moment in his final semester of high school at New Manchester he did so, with the Bulldogs sticking by his side throughout the recruiting process.
Behind Chubb and Michel at the position are Brendan Douglas, Elijah Holyfield, Tae Crowder, Shaquery Wilson and Herrien. Having five scholarship running backs instead of four should make preseason practice smoother for the Bulldogs.
Smart did say that Herrien has had to play catch-up physically since he could only focus on academics during the spring semester. This preseason, he’s listed at 6-foot and 205 pounds on Georgia’s roster.
‚ÄúHe didn‚Äôt come in conditioned like the other guys because he was focused on his academics and get qualified,‚ÄĚ Smart said. ‚ÄúA lot of guys were qualified and worried about getting in shape. It‚Äôs really important he puts in the work in the weight room.‚ÄĚ

  78. Greg Poole

Versatile North Carolina offensive lineman John Ferranto will miss the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle, the school announced on Friday.
Ferranto, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior, had been listed atop the Tar Heels’ preseason depth chart at right guard, which is a new position for him. He started four games last season at left tackle, and also started all 13 games during the 2014 season at left tackle.
Ferranto suffered his injury during a workout on Monday. He underwent surgery on Wednesday. There had been some hope that Ferranto might be able to return at some point this season but the school described his injury as ‚Äúseason-ending‚ÄĚ in a release on Friday afternoon.

  79. Greg Poole

When the Bulldogs begin preseason practice in August, Chubb will be on the field to work out in just about every capacity outside of live tackling. Georgia won’t know more about Michel’s status until the first two scrimmages take place.
That means there could be an opportunity for live reps to go to freshman running back Elijah Holyfield, who enrolled this summer. Holyfield, the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, was considered the state of Georgia’s best running back recruit in the class of 2016 and figures to have a chance to show he’s deserving of some early playing time.
‚ÄúHolyfield‚Äôs there working out every day,‚ÄĚ Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. ‚ÄúHe comes from a really good program. He knows how to work out, he knows how to compete. He knows the demands at a college-type program because they gave him that at Woodward (Academy). It‚Äôs also going to be a new offense. It‚Äôs a lot on freshmen.‚ÄĚ

  80. Greg Poole

I just don’t see Mizzou as a trap game:

Kirby Smart joined Georgia at the absolute perfect time with a ton of talent in place and a relatively mediocre schedule. The Bulldogs have set the bar high but they need to take advantage of every single matchup in order to give them a shot at coming out on top in the SEC East. Georgia will open against North Carolina and then travel to Ole Miss for a huge SEC crossover game against Ole Miss but first they will have to make a stop at Missouri on September 17th. The Tigers have a new head coach in Barry Odom with eight starters returning from one of the best defenses in the nation so the Bulldogs can’t afford to overlook a potential trap game at Missouri.

  81. Greg Poole

This Walter Grant shot is one of the few recruit shot I got yesterday. KJ Britt is in town. Hopefully, I get him today.

  82. Greg Poole

Here are a few photos from¬†Kirby Camp. I have a few problems with the equipment yesterday. Some photos couldn’t be used but I fixed it when I got home , so we should get tons today.

The camp was intense. Smart told them that he did not want to hear the word, hot. He and the staff pushed the campers like it was a team practice – I was surprised.
