  1. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben  Night Biggity. Thanks for hanging with us tonight. And yes sir! 7 days to go; so, that is game week in my book

  2. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben Greg and I talked a little bit about that this week.
They could have held one today after the media was ushered out, which they were pretty quickly.

  3. biggityben

Bulldawg Bob2 Any idea if there is a scrimmage tomorrow?  I feel like I heard that they are being tight lipped about it.

  4. Bulldawg Bob2

Cal with the 34-14 lead looks like going into the half.
Don’t know if I’ll watch the 2nd half of this one.

  5. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben Bulldawg Bob2 PlumbDawg Same goes for North Hall HS up there in Hall County. They still play East Hall, White Co, and Lumpkin, but gone off the schedule are Hart County and Stephens County along with their long-time rival Gainesville HS.
It’s weird not to see NHHS and GHS not playing each other.

  6. Bulldawg Bob2

Murray Poole seemed to think so on the podcast this past week, but he did say Coffee county would be a tough test for them. Looks like that would have been a good game with it being 21-20.

  7. biggityben

Bulldawg Bob2 PlumbDawg Very true.  I went to Cartersville and I couldn’t tell you anyone they play now.

  8. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben Bulldawg Bob2 Hahaha. Yep. He’s streaky. When he’s bad, he’s bad, but when he’s on, he’s pretty good. You just never know which QB he is going to be from one series and one pass to the next.

  9. PlumbDawg

They used to never beat us. Remember the first time they did they tore down the goal post. Kinda sad situation for Appling. All our rivals have grown and moved up in class. We are stuck playing people we don’t have much history with.

  10. biggityben

Bulldawg Bob2 Lucky for Cal, Hawaii’s QB is not terribly accurate.  Of course I say that and he’ll make me eat my words on this drive.

  11. Bulldawg Bob2

PlumbDawg I don’t know PlumbDawg. Don’t much about Vidalia’s HS football team. I’ll have to ask Murray Poole on the next podcast.

  12. PlumbDawg

Is Vidalia supposed to have a good team? I know McBride gets all the attention but didn’t know about the rest of the team.

  13. Bulldawg Bob2

Cal should have more depth than Hawaii, and it looks like they might start to be pulling away. Have to see if the Golden Bears can play some defense though.

  14. biggityben

Bulldawg Bob2 biggityben RobDawg Yeah seems like since Tedford left, they just haven’t been the same.  I remember there were times that they were busting up USC’s season.

  15. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben Bulldawg Bob2 RobDawg True. Cal is one of those programs that seems like they should be better than they are, but just cannot seem to break thru.

  16. biggityben

Bulldawg Bob2 biggityben RobDawg I wouldn’t disagree with that if he had gone to USC, Oregon, UCLA, etc.  However, Cal’s cup is not runneth over with 5* talent to compete with. But, your point is well taken.

  17. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben RobDawg  Recruiting rankings in college football should not be compared the same as draft picks in the NFL.
There is a huge leap from high school football to college football, especially major FBS football. While Cal is not the SEC, the PAC-12 is not a mid-major conference either.
I know he headed west, but he still would have been a big pick up for Georgia’s 2016 class if he had chosen the Dawgs.

  18. biggityben

RobDawg Yeah but the nations’ number 1 overall athlete?  He is also supposed to play more than one position.

  19. RobDawg

In fairness shouldn’t really think of that as freshman in big boy SEC football at that position. Godwin had to but normal years a frosh shouldn’t

  20. biggityben

JaxDawg I believe the first play from scrimmage for Cal was a long toss to him.  He caught it out of bounds.

  21. biggityben

I’ll say one thing, if Drob has one play (that I’ve seen) on Cal’s team, he wouldn’t be sniffing the field at UGA.

  22. Bulldawg Bob2

biggityben Bulldawg Bob2  He does seem more focused; so, aye. I do hope it translates. He has a ton of potential. It would be a huge help to the young defense up front for him and Bellamy to have big years at OLB.

  23. JaxDawg

Hasn’t had a play yet but he prob will get into the rotation. The defenses haven’t been playing too well

  24. Bulldawg Bob2

About to be another score by Cal.
We’re going to have 35 points between these two teams before the 1st qtr is over lol

  25. biggityben

I’m not gonna say both of these teams are miserable, but at least on is.  And misery loves company 😉

  26. Bulldawg Bob2

Greg Poole DawgDaddy  Let me check biggityben, and I’ll post a link up top. We should also have just the audio of the interviews today on

  27. RobDawg

I don’t know. Might be the excuse I need to go to Australia. I mean I bought season tickets for Ariz State’s program in order to go out to Tempe when we played them in 2008

  28. Hobnailboot aka RobG

dsw61 I’m not a fan of Ryan, wish they would trade him before he gets too old to get anything in return

  29. biggityben

RobDawg I’m curious if these fans totally understand what they’re watching.  I’ll tell you one thing, if UGA decided to do this, I’d be furious.

  30. RobDawg

So since they are in Australia does the ball rotate the opposite way when QB throws it down there?

  31. biggityben

RobDawg Funny how he picked the school that had 8 wins last year with this year’s number one overall draft pick.  Just, wow.

  32. biggityben

RobDawg Yeah they showed a shot of him walking on the sidelines before kickoff but instead of talking about him, they talked about Cal’s ‘deep’ running back stable.

  33. biggityben

DawgDaddy biggityben Which is shocking considering how much ‘ink’ was used talking about that guy’s recruitment.

  34. biggityben

I’d love to know what percentage of 1st kickoffs of the college football season are onsides kicks.  Also, wasn’t that Demetris on the first pass?

  35. dsw61

I know what a pundit would be looking at to pick Tennessee to beat Bama. Tennessee fans are just as delusional about their prospects in that game. They are using last year’s game as a measuring stick, which is a huge mistake IMO. In last year’s game, Tennessee was coming off a bye week and Bama was playing their eight straight game. They were clearly tired. Despite that advantage by Tennessee, Bama held Tennessee to 7 points until about the 6:00 mark of the 4th quarter. Just go watch the last possession by Tennessee with 2:24 left in the game. The game is on the line and Bama is up by 5. Watch Bama’s DL vs Tennessee’s OL…an exhausted Bama DL vs a Tennessee OL coming off of a bye week. Tennessee will have no such luck this year. Both teams will be playing their 7th straight game. In that scenario, I would not bet against Bama because of their quality depth.

  36. revtizzy

tmdawg12 They did a good job of building to that part of the season.

I also thought the cut’s from the f bomb to The Lord’s Prayer were interesting and sometimes jarring.

  37. Bulldawg Bob2

Interesting prediction. So you think Chaney goes with an ace formation with two TEs to start the game vs UNC?

  38. Dawgfood1960

Fromm and Hoco 14 14 vs Peach at half.
80 yard bomb called back holding against Hoco.
40+ yard to later from Fromm. Peach playing tough.

  39. Bulldawg Bob2

Yes indeed. I know it is Cali and Hawaii, but as RobG said, it’ll scratch the itch till next Saturday

  40. dsw61

PTCDawg I expect to see a lot of Jackson Harris because of his ability to block in the run game. Also catches the ball real well.

  41. Avon Barksdale

Unfortunately, it sounds like Keith Marshall is injured. That guy just can’t catch a break!!! Arm or hand injury

  42. PTCDawg

My prediction for O starting lineup: Lambert, Chubb, Godwin, Davis…Blaze, Catalina, Wynn, Kubs, Gaillard, Pyke, Nauta

My prediction for D starting lineup: Atkins, Thompson, Hawkins…Bellamy, Patrick, Carter, Carter…Parrish, Smith, Sanders, McGraw

My prediction for final score: Georgia 31, UNC 20

  43. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole 1mandawgpack Greg, I’m called by my middle name, Craig, and growing up I had to convince people that my formal name (i..e., first, middle and last names) wasn’t “That Damn Craig”

  44. Greg Poole

1mandawgpack There are two words that I heard my Mother say and I allow those. Her usage usually went something like this: “Damn Greg, what the hell were you thinking?”

  45. 1mandawgpack

RobDawg I think Murray got the better end of that deal, although they’re both darn (had to watch myself as the bossman is on tonight and I don’t want to get banned) good dawgs.

  46. Bulldawg Bob2

1mandawgpack 10-4 and I agree. Some of these guys have less than 10% body fat on them, and don’t look like a prototypical linebacker. Incredible how well put together they are. All muscle.

  47. 1mandawgpack

Bulldawg Bob2 1mandawgpack BB2, I was certainly not doubting his abilities at all – again if the staff thinks he can play, they certainly know better than me.  However, he just looks pretty thin in that photo and carries his weight well as he doesn’t look anywhere close to 230.

  48. Avon Barksdale

    Love to hear it!
If LoCarter can step up and have a Quentin Moses-esque junior year, this defense will be very VERY tough!

  49. Greg Poole

I’m loading my Lorenzo Carter interview to YouTube right now. This kid has changed more since we last talked to him (last season) than any kid I’ve seen in a long time. He has grown up. No more baby face – lean angular and serious.

  50. Bulldawg Bob2

1mandawgpack  Monty Rice 6-1 and about 230 lbs which is bigger than Roquan Smith at ILB. Smith is about 225 lbs. Roundtree moved to ILB and might be 220 lbs but probably closer to 210 to 215.
Natrez Patrick is 6-3 and lost weight to get down to 228 lbs.
    I recommend watching Rice play.

  51. 1mandawgpack

In the photo at the top of the page, Monty Rice certainly doesn’t look like a downhill, thumping ILB.  That said, if Kirby and Shuman think he’s a guy that can help our team, I’m all in and trust their evaluations completely.

  52. DawgDaddy

Bulldawg Bob2 Thanks Bob, those will be like watching a college game with so much talent on each team.

  53. DawgDaddy

Bulldawg Bob2 I will never understand someone willingly going to Columbia or Knoxville.  I could not live in either.

  54. 1mandawgpack

Big night in T-town tonight.  This is the 47th (or 49th) meeting between Thomasville and Thomas County Central and should be the first time that TCC has ever had the lead in the head-to-head series.  T’ville dominated the series in the 60s , 70s and early 80s, while TCC has pretty much owned them since the late 80s (mine was the first Senior class in school history that never lost the varsity game all 4 years I was in school at TCC).  It’s actually a little sad for me to see the once proud Thomasville program completely in shambles at the moment.

  55. Hobnailboot aka RobG

75tranzam DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG maybe not, but you certainly make your defense better with a baller like him on it

  56. Bulldawg Bob2

DawgLink  That’s my fault DL. I didn’t pay attention to the date. Grayson plays IMG and the Colquitt game are on tomorrow night on Saturday.

  57. 75tranzam

    DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG
I think he’s a starter from day one at USCjr, not necessarily at UGA so he’s going the easy route. You can’t coach height, to many 6’2″+ receivers in the SEC to rely on 5’9″ DB.

Nothing personal against the young man, you just can’t build a defensive backfield around kids of this height anymore in the SEC.

  58. WillieWalden

I think Sony will play next week.. I wouldn’t send him in the line too much right now but I’m sure he’ll find a role in the game plan

  59. Avon Barksdale

Wish I could get paid to simply guess the outcomes of football games and get to talk about it

  60. Avon Barksdale

Not shocked about a Cleveland potential RS. Just takes time. I’m positive Pittman will mold that kid into a MONSTER in due time!

  61. Avon Barksdale

I think it’s clear that Eason will at least play a significant amount. Whether or not he starts may not be the most relevant question (blasphemy, I know). I really feel like Kirby’s priorities are A. Play great defense B. Win in the trenches. C. Run the ball and then D. Hopefully give Eason some quality reps. Might be more beneficial to give him some pre-determined series rather than just throwing him in the ocean? Just throwing that out there, of course I’d be stoked if he starts!

  62. Bulldawg Bob2

Kirk Herbstreet saying Vols beat Bama in regular season match-up and then face them in the SEC CG and lose to them on the 2nd meeting on his preseason special on ESPNU

  63. DawgByte

Hobnailboot aka RobG I think that ship is sailing to South Stankalacky and I’m bummed about it. Think too much emphasis was paid to his height and not the player.

  64. Bulldawg Bob2

Hobnailboot aka RobG  Unless he has announced a change, yes.
And D’Andre Swift is expected to announce on Sept.1st still.

  65. Bulldawg Bob2

RobDawg  Hmmmmmm …. that explains things.
Who said it was important to pay attention to the date on the schedule? ######

  66. Bulldawg Bob2

OK. What the heck?! World tennis is pre-empting the high school football game in my area on ESPN2

  67. RobDawg

Telling you it’s going to come down to rock, paper, scissors while the trumpeter hits the first of the seven notes

  68. Bulldawg Bob2

    DawgLink  LOL.
I normally don’t listen to the Finebaum show, but for the last 30 minutes and his 7 to 10 minutes with Coach Smart were not half bad.
But HS football is about to take his spot.

  69. DawgByte

Bulldawg Bob2 DawgByte Greg Poole It’s a remarkable story… one I hope the national media picks up on, because this young man deserves the recognition, whether he wants it or not.

  70. Bulldawg Bob2

DawgByte Greg Poole  I’m anxious to see him tote the rock. I am frankly and truly amazed at his recovery. While he certainly is gifted genetically and athletically, to recover from the injury he suffered and be ready to play SEC football on Sept. 3rd just points to his work ethic and determination.

  71. DawgByte

Greg Poole DawgByte Love his size. We need to move people off the ball and he’s super strong… a grown man.

  72. DawgByte

Greg Poole The Chubbanator! Can’t believe we’re going to get to see him play next week. Didn’t think he’d make it back until mid-to-late October.

  73. DawgByte

Greg Poole DawgByte If Eason does start that’s quite an accomplishment for a true freshman. He will have proven that he’s the best option – remarkable.

  74. Bulldawg Bob2

DawgByte  Beat me to it Greg.
Plus, Eason and Lambert are rotating between the 1s and 2s from what I’ve seen reported. Is that correct Greg Poole and Michael Pope

  75. Greg Poole

DawgByte  I have always contended that he will start but the reps in practice that writers keep referring to are not a tell.

  76. DawgByte

Is it me or does it look like Eason is going to start? He’s now gone a week and a half leading off the order with first team. I know Kirby says they haven’t made up their mind on a QB… I’m calling ‘Bull’ and agree with Chip Towers – they know who their starting QB is!

  77. Bulldawg Bob2

    Greg Poole Bulldawg Bob2
No decision on starter at QB.
    Nick Chubb good to go.
Sony Michel is good to go once he is cleared,  but no time table on when that will be.

  78. DawgByte

Avon Barksdale From what I’ve heard this doesn’t surprise me. The kid has a SEC ready physique. He’s going to be a good one, along with M. Carter.

  79. Greg Poole

Today we got to watch some real practice and guess which unit I watched? # guesses.
Cleveland was shipped to another group as a scout. He will RS barring injuries that force him to play.
Michael’s fist unit line listed above is accurate. Couldn’t tell how they will sub-in. Probably will be situational.

  80. Bulldawg Bob2

How about some big hog mollies?
Greg Pyke (73) going up against freshman Daniel Gothard (71)

  81. Greg Poole

Hobnailboot aka RobG nolabigdawg There were a few dedicated readers but that type of post has lost its luster over the years. Just not enough traffic to justify the work.

  82. Bulldawg Bob2

Elijah Holyfield (13) definitely back. Going thru pass catching drills along with fellow freshman RB Brian Herrien (35)

  83. AlphaDawg

I would but I’ve rented a jeep. I have a buddy who has lived on the island for about 5 years. I’ll ask him what areas to avoid.

  84. Bulldawg Bob2

Michael Pope  Can you confirm that RB Sony Michel was still in a black no-contact jersey?

  85. Michael Pope

Good afternoon everyone, After today we will be a week away from the opener and things are truly beginning to shape up. For starters, i believe the starting offensive line is really taking the mold of Tyler Catalina at Left Tackle, Isaiah Wynn at Left Guard, Brandon Kublanow at Center, Lamont Gaillard at Right Guard, and Greg Pyke at Right Tackle. The media period was very short today but Eason seemed to be taking a lot of snaps today but all three quarterbacks still seem to be in the mix. The scout team was replicating the UNC team as we saw Quarterbacks on the scout team were wearing #10 to match Mitch Trubisky. It also seemed that David Marshall may have been getting a few first team d-line reps today as he was taking reps with John Atkins and Trenton Thompson during the media period.

  86. Bulldawg Bob2

After the high school football games, first FBS college football game of the year will be on ESPN at 10 PM ET between Cal and Hawaii.Cal vs. Hawaii (at Sydney, Australia)10:00 pm – ESPN /

  87. Hobnailboot aka RobG

DawgDaddy Greg Poole I gave my Dad that pic for Father’s day several years ago

  88. JaxDawg

Oh very cool! I love it out there. I think you’re right, both schools will get you where you want to be. In the end Robertson will shine anywhere if he is good. Some schools attract talent over others in certain fields, but in the end the stars will shine no matter where they go. Hahaha I had a boss who owns the firm, came from this small college, but he was smart as can be and built up the firm with hard work! Whooped me into shape when I was learning the ropes. LOL

  89. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Greg Poole they’ll never stop hell they all look like they have been dead for 25 years

  90. Bulldawg Bob2

Per some of the guys at practice, they were not allowed to shoot pics or video today. But as dawgmum posted, Elijah Holyfield was in a regular jersey and looked to be practicing with no limitations.
Jacob Eason and Greyson Lambert were working with the 1s and 2s.
Radi Nabulsi reported that the defensive backs were working against the scout team who were simulating UNC with Tarheel numbers.

  91. nolabigdawg

Greg Poole Hey Boss, what are the chances of getting the Panic Fan back doing his daily music selections? Really miss those along with the daily Dawg Treats!

  92. Bulldawg Bob2

Couple of Georgia high school football programs will be on ESPN2 and ESPNU tonight.
At 6 PM ET on (ESPN2) there is No. 2,ga)/football-fall-16/home.htm vs. No. 4,fl)/football-fall-16/home.htm
And then at 8 PM ET on (ESPNU) there is No. 11,fl)/football-fall-16/home.htm vs.,ga)/football-fall-16/home.htm

  93. MidtownTeacher

JaxDawg Yeah, I live across the Bay from Berkeley these days and work in business too.   Yeah, there are a bunch in PE as well as tech fin and startups.    I think Robertson could get to the NFL from Cal and Georgia, but his chances are probably better from Georgia.  Both are great schools academically.  Cal isn’t quite as good in football, but they are pass happy.

  94. JaxDawg

Oh I am very well aware of how prestigious they are. I went to Terry and know their rankings well and have worked with some cal grads in private equity. I don’t think our comments were directed at the school but at the state as a joke. I don’t think Robertson’s decision is playing to his strengths. His ability is weighted more towards football, although, I can’t comment about his academic ability. I don’t think it is to his advantage to go to a college that could limit his football development and minimize his chance of the NFL. I think for him UGA may not be as tough as a school either, again, unless he is truly looking for a challenge and a school that offers him a new world for academic research. Higher upside at UGA IMO

Alright Dawgs…  Heading out to get ready for my son’s game tonight!  Best of luck to all your local schools and I’ll check in from time to time over the weekend!

GO DAWGS!  It’s time to GATA and #ATD!!

  96. MidtownTeacher

JaxDawg I know y’all are joking, but Berkeley is one of the best colleges in the nation and their graduates are much more likely to go on to be engineers, entrepreurs and business leaders.  Despite being a Dawg fan, I think Robertson made a very good choice of where to go to school.

  97. RobDawg

Greg think grits with some extra stuff added for flavor. I think okra or other veggies are mushed up in there depending on who makes it. Now I want to go back….

  98. RobDawg

If you can get hotel/resort to suggest or get them to arrange a taxi that’s what we did. Our taxi driver became our local guide rest of week and we took care of him too. I still remember his name was Zeus and he was great guy. It was our honeymoon 25 years ago. He warned us where not to go and did say tourists need to steer clear of certain places. But that’s true about Atlanta too. The cruise ships come in port and it’s like a money grab down by waterfront. Do your own thing and you will be fine. St. John’s day trip visit was my favorite part of trip

Bansai buckeroo LOL!  You never know man, You like me seem to have done some traveling in your time!  haha!

Lucas Rogers What’s up young buck!  When’s our next commitment and who?  Can we get a 2 for 1 next week of Swift and Webb?????

  101. RobDawg

Lol no it’s nothing like that. It’s a food they serve with main entrees as a side dish. Great food. We had a taxi driver that took us about 4 streets deep off the waterfront and it was where his friends and family ate. Incredible food but a dive. I think it was Little Bo Peep Resturant

  102. AlphaDawg

Bansai buckeroo Cover that thing in Vaseline and make them get it from the bottom. I did that once as a kid for a contest.

rugbydawg79 Greg Poole RobDawg My dad used to own a couple of Grocery stores in the Atlanta Area back when I was playing football in school.  One of the highlights of our summer camps (2 a days) was when he would pull up with a truck bed full of ice cold watermelons!

  104. Bansai buckeroo

I’ve been to St. Thomas several time and never experienced any problem. Of course the last time was over 10 years ago…

  105. AlphaDawg

RobDawg on eating, for sure. Wife and I don’t eat fast food so and we’re not at a resort, so we’re looking for the local grub.

  106. rugbydawg79

Hey guys –The UGA Rugby Team plays Auburn tomorrow at 1:00 IM field 1 Address: 330 River Rd, Athens, GA 30602   If any of you are in Athens I know they would love some support –GO DAWGS !

  107. AlphaDawg

RobDawg One coworker has spooked me on the crime there. I’ve rented a jeep and we’re staying at Bologno bay. I’ve been to many Caribbean islands so I’m familiar with the areas being a little run down, but never experienced any crime. Care to share your thoughts?

  108. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole AlphaDawg ahhhh okay maybe that tree line going along the train blocks where it is.

  109. dsw61

AlphaDawg Take lots of pictures and post them. Make sure and take the ferry over to St. John and do the snorkel trail.

  110. RobDawg

Try some local restaurants that serve soul food tune menus. It will be great. And try the Fungi (province fooo gee) . You are going to love it there

AlphaDawg Have fun Alpha and don’t drink too much! ###  We will hold down the fort and keep the Dawgs motivated and focused on kicking the ever loving crap out of the boys in Baby Blue!

  112. AlphaDawg

Dawgs, my time is coming close to the end. I’ll be heading out to the USVI on sunday and won’t be back until the following sunday. I’ll drink a strong one for you all….just not in the same night….well maybe

  113. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole AlphaDawg haven’t seen the fields on millege. Are they not close to the road?

  114. Greg Poole

Kirby suggested that he was not going to have a scrimmage this week. I’m not sure I buy that.

  115. Greg Poole

Players are downstairs horsing around – our workroom id right above the dressing room – I think we hear them through the ductwork. They were in a meeting when I got here. Buses will be leaving in a few minutes

Greg Poole DawgByte Losing the weight was the first sign of positive things to come for this young man!  He did it on his own before arriving in June.  Raines is definitely a bigger and better school than Stephens county.  They lost to a south florida team in the state finals of 4-A last year in Orlando.

  117. Greg Poole

lagadawg He is not doing badly. Kindley is doing very well but we’ll see what happens on the 3rd. My guess is that Pittman would like to RS both of them if he has the depth to do so.

  118. lagadawg

Greg Poole Bansai buckeroo Maybe Cleveland is not doing bad, Maybe Kindley is just doing great.

  119. DawgDaddy

GaSoldier Herbstreit has always been butt hurt from the Dawgs whipping his arse back at tOSU.

  120. DawgByte

Bansai buckeroo I have to say I’m a bit surprised as well. I thought Ben looked very good in Spring. He’s very explosive off the line. I think what sets Kindley apart from a lot of our other OL is his athleticism. You combine that with elephant strength and as Kirby stated, “He can move people.” That’s what has been missing along our OL. We couldn’t move people on short yardage plays.

  121. Greg Poole

Bansai buckeroo  Cleveland turned 18 yesterday and he did not get the kind of training he needed in high school.
Contrast him with Kindley who is probably more athletically gifted, a year older and probably had better coaching at a bigger school..
Nothing is going on with him other than being a victim of expectations based simply on his size

Bansai buckeroo Remember those videos of him playing Basketball at Raines HS?  This kid has skills that Pittman likes!  His feet and body movements are not that of a 340# man!  Go Solomon!

Bansai buckeroo I know…  I too am surprised how well Kindley has progressed.  I love this kids story and I’m pulling for him to be a fixture on our OL for years to come!   He’s obviously busted his tail since signing with UGA!

  124. Bansai buckeroo

No doubt Chief… My comment really wasn’t a knock on Ben but jut surprise that there was another freshman who could come in and beat him out….

Bulltoad DawgByte Bansai buckeroo Right, kid is a baby in a Full Grown man’s body!  Ben was hurt by not having the coaching and dedication to the position of OL/OT in HS, pretty sure I remember him playing more defense than offense in HS and was playing a little out of position as well.  He will be a contributor for us no doubt!  A full year with Pittman will get him ready starting next season!

  126. Bulltoad

DawgByte Bansai buckeroo Ben is very young just turning 18.  Kindley is a year older then him as example.  We all need to have patience with Ben.

DawgByte bahits Bansai buckeroo Agree byte, I believe the Technique and knowledge are gonna keep him from playing this year, but he will be fine!

Bansai buckeroo Exactly, Kudos for Pittman!  Kid lost over 45 ibs once he signed and before he reported in June!  That says a LOT for me!  He had quick feet and played with a nice leverage even when he was like 370, but at 320-330 he’s moving like a cat! ###   Proud of the local kid and the effort he’s showed so far!

DawgDaddy MMCSDAWG Me too DD, i was there for the birth of all 4 of my children, even though I was still in the Navy when they were all born.  It was close for 1, but I made it!

  130. Bansai buckeroo

I’m not surprised he is not playing, just that a late find 3 star freshman has apparently come in here and is beating him out….kudos for Pittman..

  131. DawgByte

bahits DawgByte Bansai buckeroo Unless they have the size, strength, technique and knowledge of the offense to play as a true freshman. Clearly Ben has the size and strength, but maybe not the later two.

  132. TtownDawg

Is there anyone here that can tell me anything about the Effingham Co. High School football team? Are they a 6A team and if they are as good as I hear? they come to play my local dogs tonight, and I was curious to learn something about them.  Thanks!

  133. DawgDaddy

AlphaDawg Seeing orange everywhere you look will make you crazy, looks like it worked on that vol fan.

  134. DawgByte

Bansai buckeroo I’ve read where he’s been inconsistent and in some cases lacking some effort. He’ll get there… I think they have very high expectations for Big Country and want him to start demonstrating that potential.

  135. bahits

ronaldo77 bahits you got me curious, so went and found an article posted a couple of weeks ago.

    via Turkey Neck,
“We’ve got pretty good depth … probably got five or six guys who can play.”
That includes J.J. Green, who sat out last season after transferring from Georgia. The junior from Camden County High School rushed for 384 yards as a freshman at Georgia, but was moved to strong safety the next season. He wanted to play running back and transferred to Georgia Tech.
“J.J. has had a couple years in the system. He’s comfortable with what to do,” Johnson said. “He’s a confident guy that’s got good ability and I think he’ll help us. I’m glad to have him eligible. I wish we’d had him last year.”

  136. DawgDaddy

MMCSDAWG This last paragraph answers how long the player will be suspended IMO.

“Roberts is the fifth Auburn football player to be arrested this off-season, joining during a traffic stop in late April. Malzahn has said those four players, none of whom have been available for interviews since their arrest, were disciplined but due to their arrest. They are all”

  137. DawgDaddy

MMCSDAWG 1st child means it is a no brainer.  For me it would be a no brainer for any child, even if I had a dozen.

  138. DawgByte

Nobody really gave this kid much attention when he committed to UGA. I heard a lot of “He’s raw.”… “He’s a project.” The fact he was not recruited by any of the Top 3 Florida schools would lead one to believe he was indeed a project. When I saw Solomon Kindley’s highlight reel I thought to myself… “This kid is a bull elephant and just needs some good Pittman tutelage and he’ll be All SEC one day. This kid will play for Georgia sooner than people think.”
Well, it looks like he’s part of a group of players Kirby is going to throw in this year to get some PT!!! According to Kirby Kindley “Gets a lot of movement”, which is coach speak for… “Damn this kid is a road grader!”

Can’t wait to see this kid block for Chubb this year.

  139. ronaldo77

bahits ronaldo77 This is true but I mean this year, in the off season, I have heard nothing about him in regards to RB depth for GT

  140. TeeHDawg

I thought about the movie Unnecessary Roughness while watching his film. He almost took some poor kids head off and you can tell he thoroughly enjoyed it.

  141. ronaldo77

I haven’t heard anything about about JJ Green at GT. Seems like it was a bad choice to transfer to a high school offense and still not play. Dude could have gotten SOME playing time here.

  142. TeeHDawg

Just watched that kids highlights. When uses the words raw and a blank canvas, this certainly applies to this kid. He is one of the most raw football players I have seen. The talent is there and the effort certainly is there. Whoever gets him, that kid will turn into a terror.

Greg Poole Gotta pull for the local kid…  by way of Nigeria, but I hope he has a great season!

GaSoldier I like being the hunter and not the hunted!  keep playing UGA as the Underdawg!  Where you been GASoldier?   It’s time brother!  Let’s get it on!

  145. JaxDawg

Hahaha, I think so too. I’m looking forward to seeing him play but I don’t think a hippie commune or weed farmer is out of the question as his backup options in Cali

  146. Avon Barksdale

I think Robertson could have been an instant impact. As things stand, I’m really pulling for him to quit football and join a hippie commune…

  147. JaxDawg

Anyone going to tune in to the cal game tonight? It will be interesting to see if Robertson has an impact. Speaking of which, how would you rate the impact of guys we almost got like Brown, Robertson, Kyle Davis, EJ Price, and Chuma Edoga? Curious to hear your thoughts.

bahits Greg Poole Exactly we have one too…  So UNC better be ready on Punt returns as well!  I would call it a draw possibly slight edge to UGA based on past performances.

AlphaDawg Those Urban Myer boys like their smoke!  He is a scumbag and it will all come back on him just like it did in Florida.  I can’t stand Urban at all, both as a coach and as a human being.  Be careful drafting those OSU players, look at pot smoking Bosa…  I see lots of busts coming out of OSU as long as Myer is there.

  150. bahits

Greg Poole Quickest as in 40 speed, or shuffle?

IM is fast, but it is his lateral stop and start quickness that makes him so dangerous.

  151. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole WOW a logical vol fan. One tried to convince me that the game wasn’t even close and UT should have won like 40 something to 17

  152. bahits

Greg Poole Who knows what would have happened, if Chubb had not been injured on the first play from scrimage.  I suspect I know.

  153. Greg Poole

    UT site concerns:
Here is the actual concern: Tennessee is 13-5 in its past 18 games, with those five losses coming by a total of 25 points. And Tennessee had a two-score lead and/or a late lead in four of those five games.
Tennessee turned its season around with a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Georgia. The Vols erased a 21-point deficit to beat the Bulldogs, but who knows what would have happened if Georgia’s hadn’t dropped a perfectly-thrown ball by for a long touchdown late in that game? Tennessee had already surrendered the lead once in that game, and the Vols, to their credit, took back the lead late in the fourth quarterback. But then, let’s face it, they got extremely lucky to avoid having Georgia an extra-point away from tying the game or a two-point conversion away from winning that game.
Sure, luck goes both ways, and the Vols got some really bad breaks in some of their losses.
But here’s the point: Tennessee has to prove it can hold its nerve in the final moments of close games that every championship contender has during every season. The Vols have plenty of veterans at prominent positions, but none of those players have been in the kind of weekly cauldron that comes with contending for conference and national championships late in the season. They have to prove they can perform under pressure.
A lack proven nerves — not Jones’ record against ranked teams — is the cause for pause.

  154. AlphaDawg

bahits AlphaDawg Greg Poole Which is surprising considering 50% of Tennessee is too stupid to install Internet.

  155. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole It’s unfortunate, but UT will probably win. They have a very involved on line community.

  156. JaxDawg

Calloway, they got Tyrie Cleveland, Fulwood, Freddie Swain… I guess you’re right. But Tyrie Cleveland will be a pain

  157. Greg Poole

Former 247 writer, Gentry Estes calls UGA a ‘wildcard’:WILDCARD
Georgia had its moments under Mark Richt, but the Bulldogs haven’t won an SEC title since 2005. The tread finally wore off those tires for Richt in 2015. After 15 seasons in Athens, he was fired and replaced by Alabama defensive coordinator and former UGA player Kirby Smart, who was dealt a better hand than most first-year coaches. The Bulldogs actually went 10-3 last season and added a superstar quarterback in the making in five-star freshman Jacob Eason. Oh, and tailback Nick Chubb is returning from a knee injury as well.

JaxDawg Who other than A. Calloway is an incredible receiver?  Not trying to argue Jax, but I think your giving them a little too much credit on offense.  Until I see Mr. Del Rio perform against an SEC caliber opponent, I’m not so sure he will be the next coming of Tebow or anything close.

  159. JaxDawg

Luke Del Rio was on fire during the spring game. He’s serviceable and can make any throw, that’s all they need. They got two good RBs and incredible WRs. Returning 4 OL starters and their defense will be good. I think they will be better than last year. I’m just hoping we make it to that game with only 1 loss. Then let it play out I guess?

JaxDawg That’s why they play the games, we should know exactly where we are at by the time we take on the Gaturds here in JAX.  time will tell.  There has been a ton of controversy around the Gator program this offseason, I believe they are allowing Calloway back with the team as of today after being suspended for some behavioral issues.  There starting a QB that couldn’t make it at Alabama or Oregon St.   They lost a lot of talent on the Defense, but will still be Very good on defense.  It will be interesting to see how this season plays out, but I’m not giving up hope on our Dawgs just yet,  Why not us and why not now!

  161. JaxDawg

It’s going to be tough this year. I see us losing to ole miss and Florida. I see Florida losing to LSU and maybe Tennessee, other than that no one else. I think Florida actually wins the east

  162. Greg Poole

jwp1983  There is a difference mainly because the previous staff had taking weight off of a lot of guys. They have been working to put it back on for almost 9 months.

  163. AlphaDawg

jwp1983 I’m hesitant to say it’s the new S&C program because as someone who works out regularly it takes a while to gain noticeable mass. It is possible. However, I feel like I hear the same thing every year about the guys being bigger, faster, etc. I’m sheepish lol

  164. jwp1983

Been looking through all the pictures you guys have been taking of practices. Our guys are looking pretty stout. Even moreso than years prior. Is this just me grasping at straws because of my thirst for dawg action, or is there actually that big of a difference made since spring and summer?

  165. AlphaDawg

ronaldo77 AlphaDawg Good to hear we will get both! Didn’t know the frat story. That’s funny

  166. ronaldo77

Greg Poole ronaldo77 It was definitely a quick downward turn. For 20 years it was Brookwood and Parkview that were #1 and #2 in the state. We’ve had more success lately with a state title a few years ago,  but Parkview has been trash for 8 years or so.

This gets magnified around Gwinnett with schools like Archer and Grayson doing so well.

  167. Greg Poole

ronaldo77   Brookwood had one of the best programs in the state for many years. I have been surprised with their performance lately

  168. ronaldo77

AlphaDawg Its about damn time this happens. I dont care if its the same family of dogs! I want a healthy bulldog mutt who looks the part and will be around for more than 4 years. I want a dog who will be around 15+ years

  169. ronaldo77

Bulldawg Bob2 wooowww my alma mater has had a few rough years but I hope we can get back to what we were when I went there.

ed603 Do you have enough to share!!!  lol###  I believe this is the most exciting season opener we have had in a very long time!

  171. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole love it or hate it, we’re about to see a difference in preparation. If there’s one thing I’m confident with Kirby on besides recruiting, it’s preparation.

Greg Poole I have been questioning that philosophy for a while myself, everything I can see shows them replacing almost half their team and when you factor in M. Williams contributions on offense they are missing almost 65% of their offensive production from last year.  I’m glad someone posted this type of chart!  It’s time to GATA and make them pay!

  173. dsw61

Greg Poole IMO Georgia clearly has more talent. I just hope that with all the changes…that talent can play fast and limit mental mistakes.

  174. Reddawg13

    Bulldawg Bob2 ed603 Bulldawg36 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  175. Reddawg13

Bulldawg Bob2 dawgathon and may not until they get rid of that Yankee we got from the Patriots! can’t remember his name at the moment. He doesn’t draft well. Oh wait Dimitroff!

  176. Reddawg13

Greg Poole We won 10 games last year with injuries and shoddy coaching, how did we do that? Talent, plain and simple. We will be a good bit better this year because that talent has top notch coaching and some injured players back. And we are on year two of much better S&C. I got us winning 31 to 13. “Take No Prisoners!”

  177. Bulltoad

Greg Poole Some rural Mississippi high school is going to get a heck of a coach soon.  Hugh Freeze = Norman Dale.

  178. TtownDawg

ed603  IKR, anxiety is already kicked in for me and it will be rapidly running in me by next Friday.

  179. Bulltoad

dawgathon Bulldawg Bob2 He has a torn labrum.  Falcons did not force him to have surgery last offseason which looks like a mistake.

  180. dawgathon

Bulldawg Bob2 dawgathon True…but Vic looked really bad. Ryan still threw red zone Int’s. O-line played below expectations. But Vic got man handled.

  181. Bulldawg Bob2

dawgathon  It wasn’t just Beasley. Most of the Dirty Birds didn’t look great vs Miami in last night’s preseason game.

  182. ed603

Good morning Dawgs…this time next week I will have to take a sedative to calm my nerves! GATA!!

  183. WillieWalden

I agree but no way I would’ve let boom Williams slip away… I like Hurd too but Sony is a beast… I’m riding with my dawg all day everyday

  184. Bulldawg Bob2

Do you have what it takes to test your prognostication skills against your fellow Dawg fan? Can you defeat the likes of Greg Poole or the mighty prognostication skills of Bulldawg Bob2 ? Do you dare go up against MMCSDAWG , RumRunnerDoogie , RobDawg , or Hobnailboot aka RobG ? If so, game on!

Greg Poole So WHO wants either of the following Running Backs OVER Sony Michel???????

    Stanley “Boom” Williams, Kentucky
    Brandon Holloway, Mississippi State

    Jalen Hurd, Tennessee
    Ralph Webb, Vanderbilt

I think I will stick with Sony – even coming off of a broken arm!

  188. converted 1981

Greg Poole Good, keep it that way.  No use giving ANY info to our upcoming opponents.

  189. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole One things for sure, the fans have no issues with confidence. They’ve had confidence during 5-7 seasons.

  190. converted 1981

    Greg Poole
Good write up and very “Fair” for a “Homer Paper”.  NOT sure they beat the Gey Turds, then on to Athens and Our Beloved Dawgs, Then on the Road again to T&M and Finally Home for the Gumps.  As Several of their Players have Already Guaranteed Wins over BOTH floridah and the Gumps seems like UGA is all that is standing between them and the naty.  Well Boys get ready for a Big serving of some humble pie cause I see gUT as Losing 3 of these games.

  191. converted 1981

    Greg Poole
Several of these Runs and Chubb is Gone, Gone, Gone….
The rest of our RB Crew WILL Brutalize these boys.  Their D will look as if they are running in Tar trying to catch Chubb.

  192. converted 1981

    Greg Poole
    1) Saw some pretty decent tackling by NC.
    2) Most of those Runs Chubb is gonna gain a LOT more yardage.
    3) Definitely Need our Both our TE’s and Receivers BLOCKING Downfield.
    4) IF Lambert Starts I hope his passes are ALL under 20 yards, otherwise I think we will see several Int just like above…..
    5) Definitely Beatable, NO “All World D’ to be found at NC!

  193. converted 1981

Greg Poole I Fully agree that gUT is the single most important game on our schedule – to Win the SEC East.  Maybe Not everyones “Must” Win but THE Win needed to win the east.

  194. Bulldawg36

Top of the morning!!! I’m headed out to celebrate my birthday!!! U fellas have an excellent day!!!

  195. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole Greg, that is perhaps the most impressive game of any player last week.  Those are unheard of stats for a defensive player.

  196. Greg Poole

Scenarios for Georgia winning the East at 6-2
IF losses come to Ole Miss and Auburn — Florida and Tennessee would need to lose one additional SEC game outside of losses to Georgia for the Bulldogs to hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Arkansas dot those respective schedules. The Gators and Vols aren’t getting through that West gauntlet unscathed.
IF losses come to Ole Miss and Florida — Gators must lose three SEC games elsewhere. With matchups at Tennessee and Arkansas and a home showdown with LSU, it’s certainly possible, but 1-2 seems more likely.
IF losses come to Florida and Tennessee — Gators and Vols both must lose three SEC games elsewhere to finish 5-3 since each team would hold tiebreakers over Georgia. Good luck with that if you’re Kirby Smart. Florida’s out to prove its underrated as the division’s defending champ while Butch Jones would feel serious job pressure with that many setbacks and no SECCG berth.
With the scenarios laid out, some appear more feasible than others. You never want to rely on another team to lose down the stretch or elsewhere during the season, but you’d have to like Georgia’s chances if it takes cares of business against both primary East rivals.
By the time the Bulldogs play the Gators in Jacksonville, each team will know where they stand with regards to winning the division. Georgia has never won the East with a loss to Tennessee during the same season, but has accomplished the feat three times while losing to Florida.
Circle that one in Sharpie, Georgia fans.

  197. Greg Poole

Tennessee site looks at the Georgia game:
I see this game as very similar to the Florida game in that, both teams’ strength will be their defense and both will likely have inexperience at quarterback – especially if Eason earns the starting job for Georgia. The biggest difference here is the Bulldogs’ running game. Sony Michel and Nick Chubb are for real. Even if Chubb returns from his injury at just some of what he used to be, he is still better than most of the running backs in college football.
As for trap games, if Tennessee comes out of the Florida game with a win, the Vols would likely be 4-0 going in to Athens with sky-high confidence – which could be a good thing, or a bad thing. Obviously you want your team to finally “learn how to win” as Butch Jones says, but you also don’t want them to lose their edge or get too cocky. Make no mistake about it, this Georgia team is good. And Kirby Smart has all the makings to be a very successful head coach. After all, he just spent nearly the last decade winning championships with Nick Saban.
Home-field advantage will definitely play a part in this game and should keep it closer than Vol fans might like it to be. And even though Bob Shoop says no one will run the football on them, I think Chubb and Michel will combine for around 150-200 total rushing yards.
The X-factor for this game to me is Georgia’s quarterback situation. Whether it’s Eason or Lambert, the truth is, one is a true freshman and the other is an inconsistent transfer from Virginia. I see this one playing down to the wire like last season, but ultimately the confidence of beating Florida the week before will help Tennessee get the victory in the end, moving to 5-0. Vols win 34-30.
