Lee McCoy Named to Ben Hogan Award Watch List

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia junior Lee McCoy has been named to the watch list for the Ben Hogan Award, which is presented annually to the top golfer based on all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period.
[su_spacer size=”40″] McCoy leads the SEC with a 69.6 scoring average. He has finished first, second, fourth, fifth and 11th in the five tournaments in which he has participated this year. McCoy claimed medalist honors in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup. He was chosen as the SEC Golfer of the Week after his fourth-place showing in the Puerto Rico Classic.
[su_spacer size=”40″] McCoy is individually ranked fourth in the Golfstat Cup Standings and sixth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The 24-man watch list includes Jimmy Beck of Kennesaw State, Brian Campbell of Illinois, Charlie Danielson of Illinois, Bryson Dechambeau of SMU, Thomas Detry of Illinois, Matt Gilchrest of Auburn, Gavin Green of New Mexico, Rico Hoey of Southern California, Beau Hossler of Texas, Kyle Jones of Baylor, Jack Maguire of Florida State, Denny McCarthy of Virginia, Maverick McNealy of Stanford, Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington, Jon Rahm of Arizona State, Max Rotluff of Arizona State, Xander Schauffele of San Diego State, Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech, Robby Shelton of Alabama, Clement Sordet of Texas Tech, Hunter Stewart of Vanderbilt, Scott Vincent of Virginia Tech and Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The list of 10 semifinalists will be unveiled on April 15. On May 6, that group will be pared down to three finalists who will attend a black-tie banquet announcing the winner at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 18, prior to the start of the PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

[su_spacer size=”40″] In addition, McCoy stands second in the first spring edition of the 2015 Palmer Cup Ranking. The top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and Europe will be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., June 12-14.
[su_spacer size=”40″] McCoy and his Georgia teammates will be hosting the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Monday at Athens Country Club. The 36-hole event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and there is no cost for admission. Joining the Bulldogs will be Charleston Southern, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Regents University, Georgia State, Lipscomb, Maryland Eastern Shore, Presbyterian, Princeton, Savannah State, Stetson, Western Carolina and Youngstown State.
