GB&I took a 3-1 edge in the morning foursomes, then the teams split the singles matches 4-4.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia’s Lee McCoy saw action in the foursomes as he and Mike McCoy dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Jack Hume and Gavin Moynihan.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “I was out there watching this afternoon, and I’ve got to say, I was a lot more nervous watching than I was playing this morning,” the Georgia senior said “I’ve got a lot more respect for what my parents go through watching me play. It’s absolutely terrifying being out there and not having a club in your hand. But while I was out there watching and keeping with the scores really closely, it could have ended up a lot worse than what it did. We were down. I think halfway through the second 18 we were down pretty good, and I saw a lot of guys dig deep and fight back, and I was really proud of what I saw.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Given our start, I’m pleased where we are at this point after one day’s play,” said USA captain John “Spider” Miller. “Our guys played hard. They reached down; they delivered on some matches when they needed to, so I’m very proud of them all.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Sunday’s matches will be at 3:30 a.m. EDT (8:30 a.m. local) and 8:15 a.m. EDT (1:15 p.m. local).
[su_spacer size=”40″] Matches will be aired on ESPN3/WatchESPN at 8:30 a.m. EDT Sunday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The United States leads the series 35-8-1.
