[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia men’s golf team opened the NCAA San Diego Regional in 12th place on Thursday at The Farms Golf Club.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Needing a top-5 finish after 54 holes in the San Diego Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships later this month, the Bulldogs began with a 19-over-par 307. Oklahoma snared the top spot at 4-under 284, followed by East Tennessee State at 1-over 289, Wichita State at 4-over 292, St. Mary’s at 7-over 295, and San Diego and Virginia at 9-over 297.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Senior Mookie DeMoss and junior Lee McCoy paced the Bulldogs in the first round as they signed for 1-over 73s. They are tied for 13th, four shots in back of tri-leaders Grant Hirschman of Oklahoma, Gudmundur Kristjansson of East Tennessee State and Grant Bennett of Wichita State.

[su_spacer size=”40″] “This was not the start we had envisioned, but it happened and all we can do now is start climbing back into it,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “Our guys know what needs to be done and they know how to do it. There’s no quit in our players, so we’ll get back to work Friday and see what happens.”
