[su_spacer size=”20″] UPDATE: Georgia continues to lead by 3 after completion of third round play
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Georgia men’s golf team had built a 3-shot lead in the third round of the NCAA Championships on Sunday when play was suspended due to lightning in the area surrounding Concession Golf Club.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs and eight other schools will conclude the third round on Monday at 7 a.m. The top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team after the third round will begin the fourth round at approximately 10 a.m. The individual national champion will be crowned on Monday. The top eight squads after 72 holes will compete in match play beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs were 4-under on Sunday when play was suspended and ultimately called for the first time this weekend. Georgia has a tournament total of 1-over and a 3-shot lead over Southern Cal, a 6-stroke edge over Illinois and LSU, and a 7-shot cushion over Vanderbilt.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “It is what it is,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “This round isn’t over yet and we’ve got to go out bright and early to finish it. But when you play as much tournament golf as these guys do, this is not an uncommon occurrence. The nice thing is, it should be a different golf course in terms of being nice and cool and hopefully a calmer wind.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Senior Mookie DeMoss was creating some lightning of his own when play was stopped as he had birdied four out of five holes for a 3-under round through 16 holes. Freshman Zach Healy made it through 14 holes in 2-under, followed by sophomore Greyson Sigg at 1-under through 17, and juniors Sepp Straka (through 15) and Lee McCoy (through 16) each at 2-over.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Healy is tied for third in the individual race at 4-under, three shots in back of SMU’s Bryson Dechambeau, who completed his third round at 7-under 209. DeMoss is in the group tied for seventh at 2-under. Straka is 2-over for the tournament, while McCoy and Sigg are 8-over.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “We’re certainly happy with where we are in the standings,” Sigg said. “If you had told us last week that we’d be in first place at this point, well, every team in the country would’ve taken that.  We’re very happy, but we still have a lot of golf left to play. We haven’t reached our goal just yet.”
